There is an option for members to upload a profile picture. Please enable this option from the following area of eMember:
WP eMember Settings -> Pages/Forms Settings -> Edit Profile Form Fields -> Enable Profile Thumbnail image
Otherwise, use the gravatar.com site.
Please note: The eMember profile picture is not linked with the WP avatar as it cannot push a profile photo to the Gravatar.com site.

BUT the problem seems to happen when both payments use the same gateway (PayPal).
What you are saying is; that when both payments are made using the PayPal Standard gateway, that is built into eStore, the problem occurs?
BUT for one book the receipt includes the shipping cost for the book in the book’s price and for the other book the receipt shows the shipping as a separate amount.
And the above issue only occurs when using the PayPal Standard gateway built into eStore, but not the Stripe gateway; which you are using through the Payment Gateway Bundle?

Did you check the “Notify me of follow-up replies via email” option at the bottom of this page, just before the SUBMIT button?
Is there any way that the stamped pdf cannot be unlocked by this service?
No. The reason is because the PDFs are being encrypted using the “standard” Adobe PDF encryption, which unfortunately can always be tinkered by someone who is determined. The only solution is a “legal one,” but I doubt that you have the fortitude or monetary ability to pursue a legal solution.
The problem with subscriptions in general; is the buyer is able to cancel them, at will. Subscriptions are best suited for products that grant access to information, that can be “turned off” if the buyer cancels the subscription. I think what you are trying to do is an “installment plan” type of payment, that can’t be cancelled by the buyer:

“Paying out?” Are you referring to the Affiliate Platform or eStore? What do you mean by “Paying Out???”

- Check the Stamped PDF file folder, to see if the file was stamped.
- Were any thank you pages, or seller emails, triggered?
- It is possible the IPN processing is not correctly configured.
Now… as far as the existing situation is concerned. If you indeed received the correct amount in your PayPal account, and the Affiliate Platform agrees with what you’d expect to see; the chances are that a sale did indeed occur. Simply manually stamp the PDF file and send the link to the customer.

I know the PayPal API will tell the eMember plugin that the subscriber has cancelled, but can the plugin tell PayPal to cancel?
No, the plugin cannot cause PayPal to cancel a subscription; UNLESS you are using the Payment Gateway Bundle.
