Issues with the coupon feature

Hello! I was wondering if you could help me with some issues I ran into with the coupon feature.
I wanted to do a giveaway that would cover the price of one product that costs 10usd + shipping which is 6usd. The coupon code I created was for 15.99usd (so the total is not 0usd and it lets the user check out). I added one product for 10usd to the cart, but after I applied the discount, the shipping cost disappeared completely. So the total of the order was not 0.01usd but 0usd. If I add more items to the shopping cart, the shipping amount re-appears. Do you have any idea what might be causing this?

One additional question I have is if it would be possible to somehow allow people to use multiple discount codes on one order. That way I could create a 9.99usd discount code for the product and a “free shipping” discount code as well, that could potentially solve the issue? I’d like people to be able to use multiple discount codes in general, I would have a lot of use for it.

Only ONE discount is allowed at a time. In your case, the free item OR free shipping. To support what you’d like to do; you need to enable “coupon stacking.”

Thank you so much for your reply, the coupon stacking is almost exactly what i’m looking for, although I thought that by allowing the stacking, it would only let you apply each coupon once. For example, if i have a coupon number 1 and a coupon number 2, i could only apply each of them once to one order and not an infinite amount of times. Could that be done?

Have you “tried?” Coupon stacking works, at the expense of some protections that would normally prevent coupon abuse.

Yes, when trying it though, the coupon stacking allowed the same coupon code to be applied to an item an infinite number of times. Is there a way to prevent this?

Oh I see from the last message on this post (https://support.tipsandtricks-hq.com/forums/topic/how-to-use-a-discount-coupon-and-free-shipping) that this option doesn’t prevent people from entering the same code multiple times. Has that option been added since that 2012 forum post by any chance?

No. Perhaps you might want to inquire about having custom work done, so that your original request can be accommodated. Include a reference to this forum thread and a developer will get back to you.
