November 21, 2013 at 3:11 am in reply to: eStore – Variable product_ID and category_ID possible? #53673StarCircleAcademyMember
Is there a way to add a custom sort of categories? I’d like to sort my items by one of:
Date / time
Title [already supported via the shortcode]
Availability
I’m using the category method to display “Webinars” on this page:
I’d like to also sort by the date of the webinar, and whether or not it’s sold out (inventory = 0)
Ideally the *customer* could click a button to sort by title, too.
I realize that “date” is a not a something that exists at present so my work around is to change the item name to start with the date in yyyy-mm-dd format. That’s OK, but not completely friendly since I put the date in the description.
StarCircleAcademyMemberDon’t know how NextGen plays into this, but if you are showing products by “Category” you can drop the category from the product and thus remove it from the display.
November 21, 2013 at 1:00 am in reply to: eStore – how to add variations to the product? like 5 and 6 variations and so on #56292StarCircleAcademyMemberI’m trying to wrap my head ’round 7 variations. Closet I’ve come so far is: Socks: Argyle, blue, cotton, size 10, with logo. But that’s only 6 variations. Seems to me that could be broken down to:
Cotton-Blue-Argyle, size 10, with logo
Nylon-Black-striped, size 6, no logo,
etc. which means there really are only 3 variations.
But I notice I have a problem with variations in general. How do I *easily* tell what variations a customer has chosen? I’d like the Manage Customers, for example, to be able to select all customers who bought item 28 with “no logo”.
The variations are encoded in the name and the product name isn’t displayed in the Manage customers page. Have to drill down into the transaction where only the first 55 characters of the product are displayed.
In keeping with this example, is there a way to ask WP eStore: to list all customers who purchased Cotton-Blue-Argyle with a Logo?
I’m sure there is a better place to ask this question… but I read many articles and this was the last one of the bunch.
November 21, 2013 at 12:51 am in reply to: eStore – Amazon S3 problems and multiple file download #44079StarCircleAcademyMemberI’m assuming that “APRTP” is something unique to Amazon.com?
So far all I’ve found from googling is information about protecting the rainforest.
October 12, 2013 at 11:00 pm in reply to: How To Specify An Individual IPN Forwarding Address For A Product #55589StarCircleAcademyMemberNo sooner did I post that, but I found on the “WP EStore Settings -> 3rd Party Integration -> Instant Payment Notification (IPN) Post URL
I see where the original poster mentioned that, but I misread it. I’ll dig in some more.
October 12, 2013 at 10:22 pm in reply to: How To Specify An Individual IPN Forwarding Address For A Product #55587StarCircleAcademyMemberHey, I was directed here from https://support.tipsandtricks-hq.com/forums/topic/is-there-a-model-for-how-to-integrate-a-post-payment-step-into-wp-estore
But I’m not sure I understand what is being proposed. Where is the “forward IPN” option? I see an option per product to return the *user* to a particular page.
That option is on the Product:
Buy Now, Subscription or Donation Type Button Specific Settings (Click to Expand) -> Return URL
And that MIGHT work, but I’d have to be able to have substituteable parameters from the sales/PayPal data. However if for some reason the user didn’t let it go to that page the webinar registration wouldn’t occur.
StarCircleAcademyMemberI edited the download.php file and my edits were removed after an upgrade of eStore. I realize this is the way it should work, but is there a best practice for preserving my work? Perhaps the definitions for the text can be put in a separate, separately loadable file.
While I’m dreaming, perhaps the settings could allow a custom “contact URL” (which could be a page or mailto: link).
StarCircleAcademyMemberYes, you can create a preview page and add it as a link to the product field “Thumbnail Target URL”
When the user clicks the thumbnail, they will be taken to your preview. To be clear, you can create your thumbnail and make sure it says “Click for Preview”.
Or, you can create a “digital variation” where the downloadable content is an extension and the base component is the preview content. Unfortunately it’s really hard to get that to work since e.g. PayPal won’t let you create a $0.00 sale – and your users may expect an instant ability to preview.
October 11, 2013 at 10:25 pm in reply to: estore – some customers not getting download email, can't find problem #57713StarCircleAcademyMemberI realize this is an old message, but one tip that doesn’t seem to be listed on the sheet is to configure WP Estore to send you copies of the emails sent to customers. If YOU get emailed copies, it indicates that the email did go out. Also, since you are being sent copies, you can always re-mail them to anyone who says they didn’t get a copy.
To get copies of outgoing emails, cofigure the “Notification Email Address” on Store -> Settings -> Email Settings
September 19, 2013 at 5:25 pm in reply to: eStore – How to Use a Text Link or URL to Accommodate the Purchase of a Product #45579StarCircleAcademyMemberI’m surfacing this again. Had a devil of a time finding it when I searched for “emailable link” “purchase via URL”.
It’s a great feature, by the way because it allows me to have people buy things that are not visible otherwise. For example, I’ve just set up a special offer where I duplicated an existing product at a discounted price. Since I don’t show the discounted offer anywhere the “buy now” or “add to cart” links in my marketing are perfect.
Thanks!
August 24, 2013 at 3:23 pm in reply to: Needed: Suggestion/Best Practice for distributing digital Updates. #57149StarCircleAcademyMemberA+ for that suggestion! I didn’t realize I could change the product limits individually!
I do need to change that download failure page, though. It’s pretty scary and non-specific.
August 22, 2013 at 5:44 pm in reply to: Needed: Suggestion/Best Practice for distributing digital Updates. #57147StarCircleAcademyMemberInteresting… sending the encrypted link. It might work for some scenarios except:
1. The number of downloads allowed is limited to say 10. I have 100s of customers. Does the encrypted link bypass the limit of downloads allowed? Indeed, if that worked, I’d expect you guys to use that process instead of having the customer run to check if some product has been updated.
2. One part of the content includes a pdf that is being stamped. Since the stamp includes their name and email, I couldn’t have that in this case. Fortunately the pdf portion doesn’t change very often.
3. If the encrypted link is forwarded to someone who didn’t purchase the product… then what? Yes, I realize they could always download and email the product – but people being lazy aren’t as likely to do that as to forward the link.
August 14, 2013 at 11:21 pm in reply to: Needed: Suggestion/Best Practice for distributing digital Updates. #57145StarCircleAcademyMemberThanks, wzp, there is yet one additional problem with option 3: when [wp_eStore_download_link_sender] is used it behaves like the “Squeeze form” download and doesn’t send all of the “Additional Information”.
By wasted bandwidth, I mean if someone has previously purchased a dozen PDFs they will get them all re-stamped and links resent. That’s mondo space used for the stamped files and additional download time if they chose to click the download links. There is also nothing that would prevent a malicious customer from requesting new links until the cows come home and forwarding those links to all of their friends for “free”. (I suppose that’s true of using the transaction number, too – #4). If the stamper only created stamped files when the file is actually requested via the download link, I suppose that wouldn’t be as much of an issue.
Since not all of my content (can) be stamped, that’s pretty scary for me. It would be uber cool if I can limit the number of times per week/month that someone could invoke [wp_eStore_download_link_sender].
Lastly, I’m not sure if someone requesting the [wp_eStore_download_link_sender] will also do all of the responder registrations. Logically it shouldn’t be needed…
August 10, 2013 at 6:44 pm in reply to: Squeeze Page & MailChimp to a group or list? Add Customer to a MailChimp Group #21109StarCircleAcademyMemberNOTE: There is a subtle problem with the MailChimp Group Syntax that you might want to consider – it’s not a problem with the EStore integration.
The problem is that the default Mailchimp separator when using groups is the “:” (colon). So if you group has a colon in it, then you may not be able to do mailmerge / conditional lines.
I tried to use something like this, for example:
*|INTERESTED:Freebies:NOTES: Star Trails|* Thanks for downloading the notes on creating star trails *|END:INTERESTED|*
Because my group is named “NOTES: Star Trails” but that doesn’t work with MailChimp so I dropped the “:” and it’s all better now.
StarCircleAcademyMemberIt is also possible to create a “bundle” containing both files. Documentation here:
It works like this:
Create Product 1 which is the small file.
Create Product 2 which is the large file
Create Product 3 which is the bundle containing the small and large file (just put “1,2” in the download link).
It’s work, of course, but it does let you separately price and sell them. You could, for example, only sell 1 and 3 if you wanted where “3” contains both the large and small files.
Don’t underestimate the power of upselling, either. For example if you priced the small file at $5, the large file at $20 and offered the package of both at $21.50 you’d be surprised how many people will opt for that extra $1.50! It’s the same thing the movie theatres do: price the small popcorn at $5, the medium at $9 and the large at $11. The medium price makes the large price look attractive.
