Thanks Amin
So if they just close the browser or whatever after the PayPal screen, they don’t see the links on the Thank You page. True?
I’m trying to get the custom page stuff to work in PayPal and was going to insert verbiage in the banner that urges the user to click the link/button/whatever to return to the site in order to see the Thank You page.
Cheers… Rick
MagusMemberThanks for the confirmation WZP. So question for you here. If someone makes payment via PayPal, then just stops there without returning to the site that led them to PayPal, would that prevent the E-Mailed links from being sent?
MagusMemberI think I may be onto something here. It seems that the download count may be a cumulative total? Each of my items exists as two files. But one item has three. The item with three files is where users are reporting an exceeded download count. In restricting to 2 downloads, I was thinking it applied to each file. But it appears it’s just a running total?
MagusMemberHi there
Posting the solution to this in case anyone else has the need I did!
Last week I had a chance encounter with another person that has a web site and was offering Gift Certificates. When I asked how that was accomplished, I was told that PayPal offers this function! (I had no idea!)
So what you need to do is to use PayPal to manage the Gift Certificates. I’ve not experimented with it yet, but it appears to allow uploading your own artwork (company logo and whatnot) and managing the serializing so you don’t end up with possible duplicates.
Hopefully this will help someone else! Rick
MagusMemberHey Joe
Can you give some detail on what you do or how you have implemented S3 Media Vault? I just purchased the script, installed it and activated it. I’m curious if I can coax it to behave as I’m hoping to and would like some input from another that has been down that road already.
Thanks… Rick
MagusMemberThanks for that, Joe! Looks like S3 Media Vault is more reasonably priced than S3FlowShield.
So are you doing training videos or what? If so, I’d love to chat offline to bounce ideas around.
Thanks again… Rick
MagusMemberThanks for the info Amin!
I’ve been thinking about it and I see your point with the individual items. So how exactly does the pay per view thing work? I know with the digital downloads, the purchaser receives an obfuscated link. Would PPV work in a similar manner? Would I just point to the raw video someplace? Or would I first need to create either a post or a page in WordPress, insert the video on the post or page, then link to that somehow?
I’m guessing for the complete series of lessons, I might have a membership level that grants access to a group of pages or posts. Then for the smaller grouping, I’d have another membership level that would apply to another group of pages or posts.
Trying to sort the best approach before building the pages/posts or whatever.
Cheers… Rick
MagusMemberHi Ivy
From what I can tell after reading the information at the link you provided PayPal is somewhat in a state of flux? Sometimes the buyer sees the enhanced checkout and sometimes they see the former checkout?
Is this the only support option? Post in the forums and hope a kind fellow user replies?
I’m kind of at my wits end with trying to make this eStore thing work. I kind of feel like I’m getting nowhere and just spinning my wheels and wondering if it will ever work.

MagusMemberHi there
As for suggestions, I’m not sure what it takes to code something like this, but perhaps it’s some sort of an automated thing?
One thing I could personally think would be helpful would be to have an ability to configure the items. For example, when entering the details for a product, have an area where you can enter the IDs of products that would appear in the “Frequently bought together” list of products.
That would work well for me as opposed to having the system somehow magickally calculate products.
Cheers… Rick
MagusMemberSorry folks – I’m sure it’s difficult to solve all the issues what with all the different server configurations and the like, but I came here in search of an answer to my own issue with the IPN seemingly not functioning. I see the Thanks page I created but no download links. Only the short code. So while I’m waiting for helpful forum replies I’m poking around.
So here’s the deal. On page one I see the following advice:
If you want to display the product downloads on a “Thank You” page explained here:
WP eStore – Instant Digital Product Delivery on A Thank You Page
Then you need to make sure you have enabled PDT in your PayPal profile. This means you will have to change the value of the following two items from the “Website Payment Preferences” settings:
Auto return: On
Payment Data Transfer: On
Now I’m taking that to advise that “On” is the way to do it, no?
So the last comment is from Ivy and advises:
When “Auto Redirect” is turned on PayPal does not post the data needed by the eStore to display the links on the “Post Payment/Thank You Page”. PayPal only sends this information when the “Return to Merchant button or link is clicked. Remember the eStore will never display or send out the links if the sale can not be fully verified.
This seems to contradict with the earlier advice.
Obviously I’m very confused
MagusMemberOh yes! A tutorial for Sandbox would be a welcome thing.
September 20, 2010 at 8:23 pm in reply to: What to configure in PayPal Edit Instant Payment Notification (IPN) settings? #24571MagusMemberThanks, WZP! I’m guessing I need to just ensure the field is empty on PayPal?
MagusMemberThanks for the heads up on the permissions. I’ll have to check that. I’m using FileZilla and right-clicking to adjust permissions. Assuming that is fine.
Tried to sort the sandbox but ended up mostly confused about how to proceed with it. So I gave up.
I did add something to the cart and upon clicking the checkout button I saw that PayPal opened and that it seemed to have the right info. But upon trying to checkout, PayPal saw my account as a merchant and refused to allow me to proceed. This morning I found a card that could be used for testing. So I configured a product for .01 and have been testing that way.
Thanks for the info… Rick
MagusMemberAddendum…
I can still get to the site via FTP. I did see that the log file was updated. Unfortunately, everything it logged appears to be successful. It does sort of abruptly end. So I’m not sure I’m seeing everything to the end.
Could changing permissions on the folder while this was going on have affected this?
Cheers… Rick
MagusMemberOhhh MAN! I was sooo close!
Thanks! That’s perfect!
