Like many people here on the forum, my encrypted download links are not working. The original links are working, just not the encrypted ones. When I manually create an encrypted link it still doesn’t work.

I’m using latest version and made no changes to the script.

when someone clicks the link they get a ‘page not found’ message

Sounds like a permissions issue. What exactly, does the page not found message say? Is it a 494 page not found message? If so, p,ease ensure that the minimum permissions on the plugin directory are 755.

i set the permission for the entire plugin directory to 755, but still the same error. I think it’s a 404, because it’s the wordpress 404 page that i see.

What is an example of the encrypted link being generated?

Your servers permission setup is screwed. It’t not even executing standalone PHP scripts. for example if you enter the following in the browser it should not send you to the 404 page (it should execute the “download.php” script):

    http://www.shante-ishta.be/wp-content/plugins/eStore/download.php

Please contact your hosting provider and ask them why you can’t execute stand alone PHP scripts (you can use the above as an example).

Ok, i think i know where the problem is, but i don’t know how to fix it.

I never buy a product without testing it first. So I installed a version from a colleague. It worked fine. After that I purchased my own copy.

But, the copy from my friend installed in a folder called ‘eStore’ and the copy I bought a couple of days ago installed in a folder called ‘WP cart for digital products’.

The folder eSotre no longer exists, but when I create an encrypted download link for a product this folder is still referenced.

Any idea on how i can fix this?

You had an illegal copy of the plugin (downloaded from some torrent site maybe) and that copy of the plugin is showing some weird behavior (this copy has been tampered by the hacker). Please read this article to understand this issue better:

    http://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/free-premium-plugin-and-theme-downloaders-beware-3035

    Do the following:

    1. Make sure that the other fake copy of the eStore plugin is completely gone from your server (if you have anything left from this fake copy then things will not work).

    2. Install a fresh version of the plugin that you downloaded from us (tipsandtricks-hq.com)

    3. Go to the “Admin Functions” menu of eStore and hit the “Reset eStore Settings to Default” button.

    4. Go to the settings menu of eStore and complete the settings and save it.

    Now, test it out.

It is a good idea to perform the tasks outlined here:

Since updating to the latest version a couple of days ago the download links for the customer are no longer working. Although there have been sporadic issues in the past this is no affecting all downloads.

The error message just says “apologies, but the page you requested could not be found. Perhaps searching will help.” I have tried the link in the customer email and get the same result.

If I go to admin and create the link from there then the download works.

Any suggestions as to what might be wrong?

That error message is coming from your server, not eStore. Since you are able to use a link from an IP logged in as admin, I suspect a permissions problem.

Please ensure that plugin directory permissions are set to 755 and that there are no .htaccess restrictions in effect.

Thanks for info. permisssions okay and no .htaccess restrictions, only started to happen after update. Talking to host about potential server problems now so will post reply.

Maybe I’ve got the download manager settings wrong.

It appears not to be a server problem – their reply is:

“Are there any other PHP requirements for this software (e.g. register globals, or magic_quotes_gpc disabled)?

I can’t see that this is a hosting related issue – the script just isn’t decoding the file variable in to a valid download file.”

This is a real problem for me now as downloads are not being received.

Just to add the post above this is the URL that shows after a failed download:

    http://mysite.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-cart-for-digital-products/Error!

Aha!!! “Error!” is the filename returned when the PDF Stamper breaks…

Is that what you are trying to download? If so, can you download a non PDF Stamped file?
