Perhaps there’s a change I can make on my end to one of the plugin source files?
February 6, 2013 at 11:13 pm in reply to: Lightbox Ultimate – MP4 video won't play on iPad/iPhone #53616ainsophaurMemberThere must be something that can be done. I don’t buy that an htaccess file will destroy any chance I have of making use of this plugin. Throw me a bone here, please. I’m begging.

February 6, 2013 at 8:06 pm in reply to: Lightbox Ultimate – MP4 video won't play on iPad/iPhone #53612ainsophaurMemberI actually posted about this some time ago and gave up on it. The .htaccess file is indeed what’s causing the problem.
There MUST be some kind of modification to the code that can be made to allow for .htaccess files. People often don’t want users linking to their files outside of their website or need passwords on them.
February 6, 2013 at 5:14 pm in reply to: Lightbox Ultimate – MP4 video won't play on iPad/iPhone #53611ainsophaurMemberThere is a .htaccess and .htpassword file in the directory that has the quicktimes in it. Could that have anything to do with it? If so, is there a way around it that doesn’t involve getting rid of those files?
February 6, 2013 at 5:03 am in reply to: Lightbox Ultimate – MP4 video won't play on iPad/iPhone #53610ainsophaurMemberI’ll activate it this evening–but it conflicts with the alternate lightbox plugin I’m using, so I’ll have to turn it off in the morning.
The username on the video is: pin
The password on the video is: ball
Everything plays back fine in the computer browser. It will not play back on iPhone or iPad. My alternate lightbox plugin doesn’t have this issue (at least on the iPhone it doesn’t) despite the password protection. However, I like your plugin much better.
Thanks for your help.
February 5, 2013 at 5:36 pm in reply to: Lightbox Ultimate – MP4 video won't play on iPad/iPhone #53608ainsophaurMemberBtw, page password is “testing123”
Video l/p is pin/ball
ainsophaurMemberWell do you have any idea what might be causing this problem? It’s obviously related to the htaccess protected directory and how it talks to the browser on the iPad.
ainsophaurMemberBasically, when the video file isn’t in an htaccess directory, it plays. When it’s in the protected directory, it does not.
ainsophaurMemberI narrowed down the issue to the .htaccess file that’s protecting the directory the video file is in. Is there a particular reason that would affect playback on the iPad? How can I fix it?
ainsophaurMemberSure. Here: http://www.damienleveck.com/lightbox-test/
Page password: “ricrac”
Login/Password for the other 2 video links: ricrac/ricrac
The 3rd post is the shortcode you just tried. It plays for me on my iPad as well.
The player size I have set on the other 2 posts is the size of the video (854×480). Perhaps that has something to do with it?
ainsophaurMemberOkay, I re-encoded it. It played on the iPad before when I linked directly to the file. The re-encoded version also plays on the iPad when I link directly to the file.
However, it does not play in Flowplayer on the iPad. It plays everywhere else with the following 2 shortcodes:
[wp_lightbox_flowplayer_anchor_text_video link=”your video.mp4″ width=”854″ height=”480″ text=”Click here to open the video”]
and
[wp_lightbox_anchor_text_mp4_video link=”your video.mp4″ width=”854″ height=”480″ text=”Click here to open the video”]
There’s gotta be something with the player that’s not getting along with the iPad browser.
Please help. Thanks.
ainsophaurMemberOh, and the video was encoded with Adobe Media Encoder. When you link to the file itself, it plays fine on the iPad. Safari 5-6 has trouble playing the Quicktimes ironically, which is why I wanted Flowplayer. Flowplayer solves that problem.
ainsophaurMemberhttp://www.damienleveck.com/lightbox-test
Password: test
video login/password: ricrac/ricrac
Here’s where I’m at:
On the linked page above, the “flowplayer video” and the “mp4 video” play fine in Safari 5.1.5 and Safari 6. The “iPad test from forum” which is the HTML 5 shortcode, does not play in 5.1.5 or in Safari 6. They all play fine in Chrome 21.0.1180.89.
All 3 play fine in Safari on the iPhone.
None of them play on the iPad 2.
Your help with this is greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Damien
