Hi, I just embedded the shortcode on my test site. It’s playing fine on iPad.
[wp_lightbox_anchor_text_mp4_video link="http://www.damienleveck.com/test/Tartaglia_v1_0912_ipadtest.mp4" width="500" height="300" text="Click here to open the video"]
Can I have a look at the page where you are using this shortcode?
Sure. Here: http://www.damienleveck.com/lightbox-test/
Page password: “ricrac”
Login/Password for the other 2 video links: ricrac/ricrac
The 3rd post is the shortcode you just tried. It plays for me on my iPad as well.
The player size I have set on the other 2 posts is the size of the video (854×480). Perhaps that has something to do with it?
I narrowed down the issue to the .htaccess file that’s protecting the directory the video file is in. Is there a particular reason that would affect playback on the iPad? How can I fix it?
Basically, when the video file isn’t in an htaccess directory, it plays. When it’s in the protected directory, it does not.
I’m not sure how it will affect the video play. This is something you are doing on your site.
There are many things that need to be loaded dynamically when the lightbox window pops up. iPad might not be able to handle them well. And everytime the window pops up your login prompt is preventing the player from playing the file.
Another thing I want to mention is when you view the video on iPad it’s not controlled by flowplayer anymore. Even though you are using a flowplayer shortcode the player is actually letting the native iPad player to handle it.
Well do you have any idea what might be causing this problem? It’s obviously related to the htaccess protected directory and how it talks to the browser on the iPad.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any idea. But I can suggest some similar solutions. For example:
1. Protecting a page/post using a password. There is a “Visibility” option (in the upper-right corner of the editor) that you can configure when you publish a post/page.
2. Using a membership plugin. It will allow you protect the whole page or a section of a page from anonymous users.
