Ok, I still couldn’t get the email thing to work, but after creating a page where the links automatically display (see here for instructions http://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/ecommerce/wp-estore-instant-digital-product-delivery-499) it now works. Not really sure why that would be, but I recommend trying it as it was really easy to set up. The video tutorial on that page was really easy to follow (even if it does refer to the old Paypal style website it’s still understandable).

I set the checkout process to run in sandbox mode and changed my paypal email address to the sandbox one etc. I was taken to paypal, entered the details etc. I still got no emails, plus the log files are all empty even though I enabled that option. not really sure what’s going on here as I *did* have a fully working version of the software not too long ago.
Well this is embarrassing…it seems to be working fine now! I haven’t changed anything so I suspect my friend may have managed to figure out the problem after all. I do apologise if anyone has wasted time looking into this on my behalf. When I find out what was wrong, I’ll post so that anyone who stumbles on this post might have a clue where to start solving the problem. Thanks.
