My apologies. I see when I receive notification of a payment it shows me whether it is a renewal or a new subscription in the body of the e-mail from PayPal. My apologies for not spotting this sooner.
I would appreciate just number 2 being answered from my question. Thank you.
avd23SpectatorThanks John;
My sincere apologies.
I did a search on the forum for “updating e-member” across all the forums. After spending about 2 hours reading posts that did not address my issue, I gave up and thought it best to post.
As I come to the forum infrequently I had forgotten the update information was in your two posts.
Now that I have posted this question to the e-member forum and you have replied, hopefully when other members search for “updating e-member” or “how to update e-member” they will come across my post and not have to ask the question again.
Take care and thank you for taking time out to reply.
avd23SpectatorI know this probably seems foolish but I cannot remember how do I download updates?
avd23SpectatorThanks but sadly the disqus plugin seems to override the e-member protect plugin. I have turned on the option Members Must Be Logged in To Comment, but it does not work with disqus. non-members can leave comments and do not need to log in.
As well the comments on protected posts are only protected if I have the entire website protected or the whole post protected. The e-member protect option does not work with the setting “Members Must Be Logged In To Comment.” Disqus overrides e-member protect and the posts comments are readily available and can be commented on by anyone.
Checking the option (2) from above and going through each one separately just hides the comment but non-members can still post comments all they want.
Right now what I have done is set disqus to close off comments after 21 days. That way after 3 weeks no one can post comments on posts older than 21 days. It’s not the best but it works for now.
If you want to check out the disqus issues I can email you privately my website address where you will see the problem I am mentioning. I do not want to post it publicly on the forum for obvious reasons.
Thanks, you have a great product otherwise.
avd23SpectatorLet me rephrase my question to be more exact.
I can restrict comments by restricting the category.
What I want to do is restrict comments from posts that I am using the emember protect method on rather than protecting the whole post.
I know I can protect comments in a post one by one, but I was hoping there would be someway to protect all comments while being able to continue to use the emember protect method as I like non-members to be able to see some of the content on specific posts.
I hope this is a better description than the first question posed but I left it up just in case you needed to see both to understand my question. Thanks a lot.
September 28, 2012 at 6:02 am in reply to: eMember renewals do not include previous paid time #49602avd23SpectatorEXCELLENT!
You have such terrific support and are responsive. Unusual for anyone today to provide this kind of support. Thank you very much.
I have downloaded it and it does everything needed.
Thank you also for the tip on the renewal. I have done that and that should fix a lot of issues.
September 27, 2012 at 7:30 pm in reply to: eMember renewals do not include previous paid time #49600avd23SpectatorI have figured out what is the issue. It appears that these 5 members are NOT logging in to their membership accounts. They are paying again through PayPal using the Join Us button NOT the renewal button and then contacting me wondering why their membership is not being extended.
I have added a link to the join us advising people if they are renewing use the renewal button.
Just to be clear though:
1) If someone renews using the renewal button it will extend their period with an additional 30 days to their existing time remaining. This IS correct?
2) I will definitely need some way to see how much time is left on their expiry and then an easy way to manually add time to that expiry, otherwise I will have to keep a spreadsheet with users and track when I need to go in and manually change the date through the SUBSCRIPTION START field in the EDIT MEMBER panel.
Today I have received 4 more checks from members who do not want to use PayPal. So I appreciate your assistance in setting up an easy way to manually extend their subscription.
Thanks for your support!
September 27, 2012 at 6:58 pm in reply to: eMember renewals do not include previous paid time #49599avd23SpectatorI did a fresh install but I notice the same issue. I had a customer on Sept 26 make a payment and then on Sept 27 another payment. But the membership still shows expiry as Oct 27 2012.
This goes back to my other question recently posted, on how to manually add the extra month to their account.
I now have 5 members who have paid at various times for their membership and the accounts just reflect 30 days.
Perhaps this has something to do with my membership settings.
I have the membership set as Expires after 31 days. I thought this was the proper setting to use. These are not PayPal subscribers but are BUY NOW subscribers. They basically each month buy another 30 days through using the BUY NOW PayPal service.
Please explain further how to correct this issue. Thanks.
September 27, 2012 at 6:28 pm in reply to: eMember renewals do not include previous paid time #49598avd23SpectatorThank you. I will look into that.
avd23SpectatorThat would be great as right now to check I have to keep logging in under their username and password to see how many days are left.
September 26, 2012 at 4:31 am in reply to: [emember_protected] Question On Join Us and Log-In #49655avd23SpectatorOK figured it out. For other forum members to make the change you need to get rid of the link by changing the “emember_access_checkers.php” file in this line:
$replacement = '<a '. $join_url .' ><b>'.EMEMBER_MEMBERS_ONLY_MESSAGE.'</b></a>';
TO READ
$replacement = '<b>'.EMEMBER_MEMBERS_ONLY_MESSAGE.'</b>';
Then go back to language file and find “EMEMBER_MEMBERS_ONLY_MESSAGE” and add the HTML there.
That fixes this completely.
Thanks again for all your help. You guys rock.
September 26, 2012 at 3:06 am in reply to: [emember_protected] Question On Join Us and Log-In #49653avd23SpectatorSo what would I delete as I want to use HTML in the EMEMBER_MEMBERS_ONLY_MESSAGE
Could you be a little more specific as to what needs to be deleted in order for the link to stop. If I delete any part of it my site crashes. Sorry I cannot figure it out. Thanks.
September 25, 2012 at 5:24 pm in reply to: [emember_protected] Question On Join Us and Log-In #49651avd23SpectatorSorry to labor the point but just to be clear I can understand how to use HTML for the code but right now the
define (“EMEMBER_MEMBERS_ONLY_MESSAGE) goes directly to the joinus page so it does not matter what HTML code I use in the language.php file for that message, it always goes to the join-us link and I cannot figure out how to turn it off for the line. Hope this is enough information. Thanks.
September 25, 2012 at 5:07 pm in reply to: [emember_protected] Question On Join Us and Log-In #49650avd23SpectatorEven when I changed the wording the whole line
“This content is for members only. Please LOG-IN or Join-Us Today”
simply sends the reader to the join us page.
What I want is to remove the existing link and then have the line only link to LOG-IN for the word LOG-IN and then JOIN-US Today – link to the join us page.
In other words:
LOG-IN goes to log-in or pops up the log-in box
JOIN-US goes to the join page
The rest of the line does not go anywhere. It is simply text. Can you provide me the code for this?
September 25, 2012 at 4:56 pm in reply to: [emember_protected] Question On Join Us and Log-In #49649avd23SpectatorI was able to change the wording but how do I set up the links for this line:
“This content is for members only. Please LOG-IN or Join-Us Today”
HTML didn’t work for linking to the LOG-IN popup box and I couldn’t get the JOIN US to link to anything.
can you supply me how this line should read code wise so I can paste it in the define line for emember_members_only_message
That would help a lot. Thank you.
