This might seem like a tough request. I use DISQUS comment management system. How can I protect the comments from non-members without locking down the entire site. Right now I have a lot of posts that use the e-member protect method so that non-members can read some of the content. I don’t want to lock down the entire site but I would like to somehow protect the comments from non-members as right now they can still leave comments even though they are not members.
Thanks.
Using v8.2.1 and WP 3.4.2
October 6, 2012 at 5:42 am #50087avd23SpectatorLet me rephrase my question to be more exact.
I can restrict comments by restricting the category.
What I want to do is restrict comments from posts that I am using the emember protect method on rather than protecting the whole post.
I know I can protect comments in a post one by one, but I was hoping there would be someway to protect all comments while being able to continue to use the emember protect method as I like non-members to be able to see some of the content on specific posts.
I hope this is a better description than the first question posed but I left it up just in case you needed to see both to understand my question. Thanks a lot.
October 6, 2012 at 11:06 pm #50088adminKeymasterHave you tried checking the “Members Must be Logged in to Comment” option in eMember settings? This option will only allow your logged in members to be able to comment.
Regarding comment protection… there are two approaches:
1) Comments on protected posts are also protected (this method in enabled by default as it is used by most membership site creators).
2) You can check the “Protect Comments Separately” option and then individually protect or unprotect each of your comments just like how you protect each posts.
October 7, 2012 at 9:48 pm #50089avd23SpectatorThanks but sadly the disqus plugin seems to override the e-member protect plugin. I have turned on the option Members Must Be Logged in To Comment, but it does not work with disqus. non-members can leave comments and do not need to log in.
As well the comments on protected posts are only protected if I have the entire website protected or the whole post protected. The e-member protect option does not work with the setting “Members Must Be Logged In To Comment.” Disqus overrides e-member protect and the posts comments are readily available and can be commented on by anyone.
Checking the option (2) from above and going through each one separately just hides the comment but non-members can still post comments all they want.
Right now what I have done is set disqus to close off comments after 21 days. That way after 3 weeks no one can post comments on posts older than 21 days. It’s not the best but it works for now.
If you want to check out the disqus issues I can email you privately my website address where you will see the problem I am mentioning. I do not want to post it publicly on the forum for obvious reasons.
Thanks, you have a great product otherwise.
