One more suggestion which is a stylistic issue. The eMember widget uses a table structure with hard-coded cellpadding and cellspacing. Will you consider a CSS structure with classes to make formatting changes easier? Some of the elements in the table use CSS but a simple CSS structure will be much more flexible and easy to maintain for users. Just my two-cents worth.

acekinParticipantHello Amin,
I have just downloaded and installed the latest version to fix the WP 3.1 AJAX problem not displaying member list. Does that fix also address the issue we discussed in this thread?
A while back you added the CSV export option at my request and it is working fine to a large extent. As I suggested at the time, I am going to ask again if it would be possible to add a field selection interface in the CSV export option. I added some code to include a couple of fields that are important to us. I need to revisit the same manual fix after every update. A list of fields with check boxes to include will be a great utility, how about it?
The eMember-eStore combination is a great set for any organization who keep membership DB and accept dues payments. My students will be purchasing a copy for a project client. With a few feature additions or changes many such organizations will be in your target market. I will be happy to write a post on my site when these are added/fixed. If you want to pursue that path I will write again a list of minor changes that will be most welcome.
Take care,
Cemal
acekinParticipantAmin, any progress on this?
acekinParticipantThank you Amin, I will be looking forward to implementing that.
Cemal
acekinParticipantHello Amin. That alternative is rather cumbersome to implement but I will give it a try. I have set up a “post” rather than a “page” since I can push its publish date way back and make it buried. Hiding a page probably will require a plugin. That said, this seems to be a weak spot on the eMember plugin, don’t you think? Two separate purchase pages are not consistent with good system design as the verbiage between the two may vary, even contradict each other if not updated together. Looking into the future one simple condition may actually solve this problem very easily and elegantly. Check for the logged in status to display some content rather than membership type. If this is possible and I overlooked I will be grateful if you point that out to me.
Currently, I followed the path you described and tested it. It seems to be doing what it is supposed to do. I have not added to the header nofollow for the robots, too much work I think. If you know of a quick way of doing it please share it with me, I will appreciate it.
Thanks,
Cemal
acekinParticipantA relted question, is it possible to restrict content to the condition of being logged in, regarless the membership type or status? That will also solve this problem.
Cemal
acekinParticipantAmin, I have that option checked. The membership renewal is behind emember_protected block, that is visible to a newly registered free member but not to a member whose membership has expired. I can give you access to the site so you can try it for yourself. If there were a way to allow expired membership owners to see the protected content the problem would be solved. Alternately, if the expired membership degrades to active free membership that also works. Of course, the other alternative is not to protect the membership purchase or renewal but that is not an attractive option for me since someone can buy membership without providing the needed minimum information.
Cemal
acekinParticipantI have validated my guess:
1. For a test account, I changed the membership type to “Free”
2. Changed the status to “Active”
3. And I can see the pay dues content.
So, I need either a way to degrade all expired memberships to “Free” and keep them “Active” or a way to allow those with expired membership to see the pay dues content. The problem occurs only when a regular member has lapsed membership whcih puts him/her in limbo.

acekinParticipantOK, I deactivated and reactivated the plugin, I still cannot change my password. I also tested the presence of that extra character in the ID field, that did not seem to affect the login. I could login with or without that character there. It would be cleaner if that was not there.
Trying a new theme to test if it is the problem is a bit too ominous. It would blow out all my widgets off kilter. Is there no other way that you can test this problem programmatically? One thing that will probably be a great help is a warning message when the password is not changed in the user profile. At the same time, can the application check whether the information was successfully written to the DB and take measures to make sure it does?
I will test a couple of other things and report. In the mean time, could the team look at more robust solutions.
Thanks
Cemal
acekinParticipantThanks Ivy. I did indeed follow your instructions when I installed the latest version. However, I will try deactivate-activate again.
What is the word on the extra character in the user ID field? I take it to be a “space” character since there is not visible manifestation. I know it seems to be there because I can either delete it with backspace or move one character to right with the arrow. Should it be there? Does it have any impact on successful login?
Cemal
acekinParticipantThanks Amin. I am currently using Subscribe 2 which does not seem to have consistent performance. That’s why I am in search for a solution. I thought it would be a natural for eMember plugin, too bad you don’t have one. Thanks anyway.

July 12, 2010 at 1:59 am in reply to: How can I add more fields to registration/profile forms? #22247acekinParticipantAh, this is very nice. Thank you.
If we can resolve the issue of member profile image upload not working I will not bug your for a while, promise!
In that page, I see the place holder generic image and a gray rectangle with “Upload” in it. But there is no button functionality. I looked at the HTML source as rendered in the browser, there is nothing besides a div with a class. Inside that is the text “Upload”.
July 11, 2010 at 5:41 pm in reply to: How can I add more fields to registration/profile forms? #22245acekinParticipantThanks Amin, I am proceeding as planned and will look at the option you mention in “AddOn Settings”. However, I am running into another problem, I am sure a minor one. Here’s what I have done:
1. Enabled “More support” to present text before the More tag
2. Added general protection to “Join or Renew” page
3. Then I allowed members to access that page
Two issues. First, no text shows up even that before the WordPress “More”. I really would like to present some text there to give them some direction. Second, is there a way to identify “any member” without allowing each member type access to the content?
I think I am close to finalizing the system, thank you for your help. We can live with a running membership period for a given period, but you may want to add an option to control the expiration date as many professional or hobby organizations run their membership for fixed periods. This will actually increase the value of the software and add more potential users to your market.
July 10, 2010 at 1:04 pm in reply to: How can I add more fields to registration/profile forms? #22243acekinParticipantThanks Amin for getting back to me, better late than never. First, the “Upload” does not even appear as a button, it is a gray rectangle with “Upload” on it. There is no clickable part.
I understand your explanations and plan to implement it as follows, please correct me or tell me that I am on the right track:
1. Buying membership first does not create login ID and password, so the user must first join and create login credentials
2. Therefore, I will place the membership purchase page visible to logged in users to make sure they have login credentials
3. Then when they purchase membership it simply changes their membership status
Is this a reasonable process?
Also, if I want all the memberships to end at a certain date, say June 1, 2011 is it possible to affect that in the eMember?
When the membership of a user expires, they can purchase it again without registering I am presuming, is this correct?
Thanks
