I’ve worked my way through all the relavant postings on this but can’t find or solve my specific problem. The tips and hints are great and I really expected to get an answer.
I’ve switched on the debug option but the download manager debug log remains empty.
On a trial purchase the other logs shown things working OK.
I’m running WordPress 3.4.2. With Thesis Theme 1.8.4 WP eStore Version v6.5.3
WP emember Version v7.8.1 and WP PDF Stamper Version 4.1.7
The encrypted links (2 of them – one for a zip file and one for a pdf) are generated when I do a trial purchase – and also when I use the Admin Functions panel to do a test on a zip file I know is there. Stamper is also generating a pdf file from the original because I can see it in the directory use by stamper.
I’ve tried various encryption options (1,2,3,4,5,6 and but that makes no difference.
I get the following message in my browser when I try to use either link that’s generated. (Note that the product does exist and the files are in the right place.) …
The secure download manager ran into a problem that it couldn’t handle, and is unable to process your download request.
The problem was due to the following reason:
The product ID contained in the download link (see browser address bar) doesn’t seem to be in the wp_eStore database. You might have a download link for a product that is no longer stocked. If you think this reason is in error, please contact the site administrator.
October 25, 2012 at 12:49 pm #50699wzpModeratorThe download_manager_debug.log file should at the very least contain entries trying to document the download attempt. Does the file exist at all, and are the file attributes = 644?
Also, does the problem only exist for these 2 particular products?
October 25, 2012 at 7:43 pm #50700carlfrenchSpectatorThank you for your prompt reply.
The file does exist and has permissions set to 664 (I haven’t changed them).
I did a “reset debug log files” after the problem arose because the file displayed nothing. Now it just shows
[10/25/2012 10:20 AM] – Advisory : Log file reset.
and it doesn’t change.
I’ve just tried using the Admins function screen with two different products and get exactly the same error. The log file contains nothing new.
October 26, 2012 at 3:13 am #50701adminKeymasterCan you please load a fresh copy of eStore first:
https://support.tipsandtricks-hq.com/forums/topic/re-install-or-load-a-fresh-build-of-the-plugins
Then, make sure the download method is set to default.
Then generate a link from admin functions and try to use the link to download the item.
Do you see debug output now?
October 26, 2012 at 4:43 pm #50702carlfrenchSpectatorI’ve done that. The instructions were very clear and I had no problems with them.
BUT, I get exactly the same error message.
The debug log file has no text in it.
By way of an extra test I created a new product with a very small zip file and no pdf file but that didn’t work either – same error.
Is it significant that the download debug file contains no output?
I don’t know whether I mentioned it earlier, I think I did, but when I first did a trial purchase all the other debug files had content and only the download log (where the problem was) didn’t.
October 26, 2012 at 7:54 pm #50703wzpModeratorIt’s ***really*** significant. Every download link should create at least 3 or 4 messages in the log.
Do you have any other copies of eStore installed, or are using multiple sites on the same server?
Did you relocate the download.php file?

Did you move the site from one server to another?

Can you try setting the file permission of this debug log file to 644? Make sure that you only do this to the debug log file.
October 27, 2012 at 10:02 am #50704carlfrenchSpectatorBrilliant! Your questions and tips put me on exactly the right track. Everything is working now.
Yes I had copied everything to a subdirectory of the main site and had missed the fact that the Download Validation Script Location needed to be changed. Sorry! I kept reading that I needn’t change it instead of checking it!
The downlaod log file is working now too.
Along the way I’ve learned some very useful stuff about the product.
I am VERY HAPPY with the quality and speed of the support I’ve had. I switched from another shop product because of poor quality and support. Your support is some of the best I’ve ever had.

I’m using eStore, version 7.1.9
eMember, version 8.9.5
a wordpress version 4.2.2 with Divi Theme.
When I make the paypal process payment, I receive the email with the encrypted link, but when I try to download the book I get the following message (Note that the product does exist in the right place):
The secure download manager ran into a problem that it couldn’t handle, and is unable to process your download request.
The problem was due to the following reason:

It is rare, because when I generate an encrypted download link in the Admin Functions, it works fine and generate a debug log
[deleted debug after checking it]
Please advise what can I do.
Thank you.

- How rare?
- Are you able to “rarely” reproduce the problem using the Admin Functions?
- If you retry the exact same link later, does it work?
