Help! I’m about to give up. I’ve read everything written about setting this up, followed every detail, changed themes, deactivated plugins, tested through sandbox, tested live, the debug file says all is well (see below) and yet there is no link on the thank you page and no link in the email sent to the buyer! Where oh where am I going wrong?
Thanks.
EJK

January 1, 2012 at 2:16 am #40206PeterMemberHi there,
Can you please go through the following checklist to ensure that none of the items are the cause of your issue:
Downloaded file size is 0 (Zero) byte or 404 error or Other file download error
Then can you please do what the following post says and share the “download_manager_debug.log” debug file’s content:
January 1, 2012 at 5:44 am #40207adminKeymasterEmails are getting sent by the plugin. Your server is not delivering them or it is going to junk mail. Please check this post:
January 1, 2012 at 1:28 pm #40208EJ1023MemberHi,
To answer both responses, there is no problem with downloading with the link generated by the plugin and, yes, the email is getting sent and received. I created a link using the admin function, cut and pasted that link and it downloaded fine. I even cut and pasted the one in the debug log and it downloaded fine.
The problem is, when returned to the Thank You page, there is no link there or in the email sent to the customer.
Here’s the Thank You page: http://www.ejknapp.com/ejs-bookstore-download-page/. The shortcode for the page is located between the arrows.
This is the email sent to the test buyer in the sandbox:

January 1, 2012 at 1:38 pm #40209adminKeymasterSandbox email addresses are simulated email addresses so real emails can’t be routed there. You can’t expect to receive a real email sent by the plugin in your sandbox email account. When you customer does live purchase they will receive the email as they will be using real email addresses.
January 1, 2012 at 2:20 pm #40210EJ1023MemberOkay, here’s a weird turn of events. I just checked the emails sent by Paypal’s Sandbox to my legit seller email address and the link to the file is included in that email. The email also shows the email sent to the customer and the link to the file is there as well. Could it be the Sandbox that is causing the problem? I can’t test the site live because Paypal won’t let me buy something from myself. I had a friend test it several days ago and she received no link on the Thank You page nor did she receive a link in the email. Perhaps I should have her try it again.
Thanks.
January 1, 2012 at 10:47 pm #40211PeterMemberHi,
You can test it live with the real PayPal (ie, not sandbox) by setting the price temporarily to say $0.01 or $0.10 and asking your friend to make a test purchase from their paypal account.
As long as you don’t abuse this technique by doing thousands of real test purchases of $0.01 daily, paypal won’t mind.
January 12, 2012 at 2:15 am #40212EJ1023MemberI’ve made some progress with this. Got a friend to buy a copy of the ebook. She got the link in an email and downloaded the book successfully however, on the Thank You page, at the point where the link should have appeared, she got this: Invalid Seller Paypal Email Address Detected:
I checked Paypal and the eStore settings and all have the same email address and it is both correct and valid. Not sure if this matters but, the admin email for my WordPress blog is different. Could that be a problem?
Thanks
EJK
January 12, 2012 at 2:46 am #40213PeterMemberHi EJK,
No the WordPress email address should not have any bearing on the PayPal email address.
January 13, 2012 at 12:16 pm #40214EJ1023MemberIf that’s the case, and the eStore and Paypal addresses are correct and valid, any thoughts on why “Invalid Seller Paypal Email Address Detected:” is showing up in the place where the download link should be?
I really need to get this figured out as I may be working on a much bigger store soon.
Thanks.
January 13, 2012 at 11:21 pm #40215PeterMemberHi,
Some of the reasons according to PayPal that you may be seeing such as error are:
– Invalid email format.
– The email address is not confirmed.
Can you please doublecheck that one of the above does not apply to your address.
January 14, 2012 at 6:43 am #40216adminKeymasterYou most likely have the “Use Strict PayPal Email Address Checking” option checked in eStore settings but didn’t read the help text which explains what that option does.
December 30, 2014 at 9:21 pm #40217dlburkhartSpectatorI am also getting this error on the Thank You page.
The e-mail address shows on the PayPal profile with a status of “Primary”. How do I determine if the e-mail address is “confirmed” or not?
I read the help text for the “Use Strict PayPal Email Address Checking”. But, it is too vague and I do not understand what it really means. This option is checked by default. And, the help text makes it sound unsafe if unchecked.
December 30, 2014 at 9:26 pm #40218dlburkhartSpectatorI did find a “Confirm” button for the PayPal e-mail address. When tried, I got the message, “This email address has already been confirmed.”
So, that leaves the obscure “…Address Checking” option as a cause and the unknown dangers of unchecking it.
December 30, 2014 at 9:34 pm #40219wzpModeratorHere is the explanation of the “Use Strict PayPal Email Address Checking” setting in eStore:
https://support.tipsandtricks-hq.com/forums/topic/not-understanding-strict-paypal-email-option
If the option is checked, the “Paypal Email Address” under Settings –> Payment Gateway Settings must be the same as your primary PayPal account email.
If you want the payment to go to a PayPal account alias; then uncheck the setting.
