I had a 10 day series of free pdfs, and some readers are emailing me and telling me that the pdf is corrupted. I had two friends check and one worked fine and the other got the same error. The file itself is not corrupted because I send them the link to the dropbox file where it’s stored and then they’re able to open it. And it’s the same file I uploaded to my media files.
When I go to test the download link it always works for me so I can’t replicate it.
Help. I already have the debug option enabled. What do I look at.

Of particular interest to us, is the download_manager_debug.log fie.
July 26, 2016 at 12:27 am #73773mama23MemberThey’re not large, they’re anywhere from 200kb to 2mb. I have over 100 subscriber pdfs but it’s only the ones from this last week that are causing problems and then then some of my old ones started following the same issue.
Is the only suggestion to try Amazon s3?

“It depends.” If your hosting package is of a sufficient quality, then tweaking the settings may be good enough. But if you are using a budget level, low end hosting package, then no amount of playing with the settings will resolve the issue.
Amazon S3 S3 is free for the first year, and is just pennies per month, thereafter. Netflix uses Amazon to host its files; why shouldn’t you?
What hosting package are you using for your site?
July 26, 2016 at 4:02 am #73775adminKeymasterI believe the following checklist should help you given your PDFs are less than 2MB in size. Have you already gone through everything in that post?

July 26, 2016 at 4:34 am #73776mama23MemberMy hosting package is sufficient and I’m not on a budget package. They reply to my email saying the pdf is corrupted but when I click on the email link, it works fine for me.
Yes, I looked at the checklist and everything is in order. Like I said it was only the ones that I posted within the last 2 weeks that are causing me trouble.
While I’m sure Amazon S3 is a great solution, it’s just one other thing to set up that I need to look into with no time to do so.
July 27, 2016 at 4:09 am #73777adminKeymasterLet me understand this correctly…. you are saying if you click on an eStore generated encrypted link, it works fine. However, the SAME link doesn’t work for a user?
If the link works for you then that usually means that the system is working fine (otherwise it wouldn’t work for anyone).
Remember, some of your users may be using old email clients that messes up the link (when it tries to wrap the link URL or it sometimes add empty characters at the end of the URL).
July 27, 2016 at 8:22 pm #73778mama23MemberYes exactly I click on the links and they are fine, because they reply to the email that goes out. But some of them get the error message that the file is corrupted, and now it’s starting to happen on my old posts but it started within the last two weeks which is why it is puzzling.
July 28, 2016 at 5:37 am #73779adminKeymasterCan you share one of the links here (I will delete it later) so I can test it myself too. I have never seen this behavior so something is messed up on this site.
The following is a good read for you since this started couple of weeks ago (meaning something changed on your site around that time):
