I sometimes want to thank one of my members for something, and I would like to do that by extending their subscription.
The only way I have found so far is to change their subscription start date. That seems to work, but it does not leave a trace anywhere (other than by a later expiry date).
Is there a more elegant way of doing this?

What would you like to happen? You can always use the Admin Functions to send them a “hand-typed” thank you note, after you extended their subscription. Customers usually appreciate the fact that somebody “in charge” took the time to manually do something for them.
Changing the “start date” is how you can give a member more or less time manually. When you edit the member record, you can also check the “Send a Notification to the User” option to send them an email with some explanation.
