eStore – customer not receiving download email after purchase

I have an existing Music Store that used to work fine for downloads. The download purchase has stopped sending the final email containing the download link to the customer.

The following steps are ok:-

The download link appears on our Thank You page and works ok

PayPal emails are sent to customer and our sales mailbox

These steps don’t work:-

IPN Debug log is switched on but has no entry added

Download email is not sent to customer

Sale is not recorded in Stats

Customer is not added to list

I’ve taken my PayPal settings back to defaults, then re-enabled PDT and IPN but the problem persists.

The most common cause for what you are seeing is “IPN not received” by the plugin.

Please take a quick look at this checklist to see if you can find why that is happening:

The debug file write test produces:

[05/24/2012 7:51 PM] – SUCCESS :Paypal Class Initiated by [ip address]

[05/24/2012 7:51 PM] – SUCCESS :Post string :

[05/24/2012 7:51 PM] – SUCCESS :Connection to paypal.com successfuly completed.

[05/24/2012 7:51 PM] – FAILURE :IPN validation failed.

[05/24/2012 7:51 PM] – SUCCESS :Paypal class finished.

…but there’s no entry for a real purchase.

you can purchase the test file with your PayPal account or credit card. You will be returned to our live Thank You page containing a valid download link, but you won’t receive a notification email, and I won’t see the sale or customer in the stats.

Does the presence of the download link on the Thank You page not prove that the IPN has been received?

The plugin is receiving the IPN but the verification process is failing. Please do the following and then do another test:

For anyone encountering this problem, it was caused by a virus in the theme I was using. I had to clear out and rebuild the website to get rid of it.
