When trying to checkout this error opens in a new page: “Access Denied! Please provide valid username and password to download the file.” I am using the non-fancy checkout option on a non-downloadable product (a book sale).
I also just found out that trying to use the editor shortcode creator gives the same message….
November 13, 2012 at 12:02 am #51280PeterMemberThat doesn’t look like anything our plugin does. Maybe there is an issue with another plugin in this install.
Can you please try and provide as much info as per this link:
Also, can you post the link to the page containing your product so we can try a test checkout?
May 2, 2014 at 5:08 am #51281clearscopedesignParticipantWe provide products for teachers, and many are getting an “Access Denied! Please provide valid username and password to download the file” message when attempting to download files while connected to a school network. Is there any way to solve this, or do we just have to tell them to download the files from home?
Thank you!
May 2, 2014 at 6:44 am #51282adminKeymasterWP eStore plugin doesn’t show any error message like that. Which plugin is it really coming from?

Many, but not all? Please quantify what the specific conditions are, for when this happens.
…while connected to a school network.
Many school and government networks have “uber secure” automated network policies that prevent certain kinds of things (like file downloads) from happening.
July 21, 2014 at 6:46 am #51284clearscopedesignParticipantThank you – is there any way around this issue? Too many of our clients are not able to download the materials from their schools.
It is hard to quantify the specific conditions – simply that many people report that they are not able to download the files on their school computers.
Is the issue between a Firewall and the eStore encryption process? If we were to just not encrypt the links at all would that solve the issue – or is there anything else we can do to make this work for them?
Thank you!
July 21, 2014 at 12:03 pm #51285wzpModeratorIt has nothing to do with encryption. It does have to do with firewall & network routing rules.
Recently, I took on a small medical school as a client. To save money on their Internet connection bandwidth; they had me program the network so that if a student tried doing file downloads, or even iTunes, the offending computer would get throttled back to 56kps (dialup modem speed). I suspect that, if the problem only occurs when a school system is used, the only way you can address the issue is to talk directly to their network administrator, and ask if your site can be “whitelisted.”
RIP, net neutrality.
Ask the same person who gets the message, to try it “at home.” If they don’t get the message, then you definitely know the problem is “not you.”
July 23, 2014 at 1:09 am #51286clearscopedesignParticipantThank you very much for this, it is most helpful.
Unfortunately the majority of our clients are teachers on school networks, but all from different schools so there would be no way to be whitelisted across all the networks.
Thank you again…
November 6, 2014 at 11:18 pm #51287clearscopedesignParticipantSorry, but we just continue to get complaints from teachers who cannot download materials when on school networks. From the quantity of complaints that we get, there doesn’t seem to be a single school that teachers are able to access our materials from – we have to tell everyone to download the materials from home, which is a huge pain (some teachers don’t even have internet access at home).
Can you please explain how it “It has nothing to do with encryption,” when the problem only happens with download materials that are encrypted through eStore? (the problem does not happen with any other downloads)
Also, we continue to have the “Access Denied! Please provide valid username and password to download the file.” error reported in these instances.
You have stated above that eStore does not produce this message, but where else could the problem be coming from? The issue occurs when downloading encrypted eStore links, and only when downloading encrypted eStore links.
I know that you have stated that the problem is with the networks, but essentially what the reality seems to be is that eStore encryption process cannot work on any network at all.
Or, perhaps there is something else going on here?
Thank you…
November 7, 2014 at 1:10 am #51288wzpModeratorThe error DOES NOT come from eStore (That message is simply not present in our code). It might be getting triggered by another plugin or tweak when you go to the encrypted link. How many other plugins are you using? Have you done the following test?
https://support.tipsandtricks-hq.com/forums/topic/test-to-identy-a-conflicting-theme-or-plugin
If it “works from home,” but not at work; there is no way the plugin is at fault. That’s just the simple fact of the matter; because home Internet connections are less secure than government (school) networks.
What you could try doing is hosting your download files on Amazon S3.
That way, the downloads are coming from Amazon’s servers. The first year of Amazon S3 is free; and users report a typical monthly cost of less than $10.
Maybe the Amazon servers are not blocked. Can they download Amazon Apps, eBooks and videos from the schools?
I think it is worth giving this a try for your situation.
November 12, 2014 at 2:06 am #51289clearscopedesignParticipantThank you – we will look into using Amazon S3 to see if that somehow solves the problem.
However, I don’t quite understand how it is an issue of the server being blocked when all other downloads (that are not encrypted by eStore) do not have any problems on the same networks.
Can you please just clarify for us how “It has nothing to do with encryption” when the problem only occurs with the eStore encrypted materials, and not any other downloadable materials? Isn’t that an indication that it is, in fact, related to the encryption, since only encrypted items are being blocked?
Thank you…
November 12, 2014 at 2:12 am #51290wzpModeratorWhen an non-encrypted linkk is used, the browser “pulls” the file down from the server. When an encrypted link is used, the server “pushes” the file to the browser. It’s this “pushing action” that is being blocked. The plugin is not to blame for the problem.
When using encrypted links with Amazon, the browser “pulls” the data from Amazon’s servers; just like it does with unencrypted links. That’s why this may work better for you.
November 13, 2014 at 7:33 am #51291clearscopedesignParticipantAh ok, that is most insightful for understanding it, thank you very much.
Do you guys happen to have an example file that is hosted through Amazon and downloadable via the eStore encryption, that we could try to download from one of our networks, to see if it works?
Thank you as always…
November 13, 2014 at 1:16 pm #51292wzpModeratorIt’s really best if you create a test file yourself; so that you become familiar with the integration procedure. Especially since setting up an Amazon S3 account is free for the first year.
Remember to follow these integration steps:
November 14, 2014 at 3:57 am #51293clearscopedesignParticipantThank you – yes I see that the first year is free, but the setup of it seems fairly extensive, so there is going to be some cost involved for us just to get things set up in order to do the test. We’d hate to invest a bunch of time and cost in getting it set up, only to realize that it doesn’t even solve the problem. If there is an example download that we could test with, it’s greatly appreciated. If not, we understand. Thank you…
