Setting up an Amazon account takes less than 15 minutes. Setting up Amazon S3 integration on eStore takes the same amount of time as the tutorial video (maybe less).
January 22, 2015 at 4:29 am #51295clearscopedesignParticipantHi – we have finally set up an Amazon S3 account to test and see if this will solve our issue with users downloading while on networks.
I have followed your instructions, however I am now getting the following error (this is not happening on a network of any kind as I haven’t even gotten to that point yet – this is just trying to get the initial test download item to work before we test by downloading from a network). Here is the error we are now receiving:
—
The secure download manager ran into a problem that it couldn’t handle, and is unable to process your download request. Please contact the site administrator.
Please tell the site administrator the problem was due to the following reason:
The digital product associated with the download link (see browser address bar) contains a malformed Amazon S3 URI. The administrator should specifically ensure that bucket names are in compliance with Amazon’s bucket naming restrictions.i The most common mistake would be if the administrator used any upper case letters or space characters in the bucket name.
—
This is the URL that we are entering under Digital Product URL in eStore: as3tp://mispbucket.s3.amazonaws.com/testfolder/2-sided-flyer-2014.pdf
Please let us know what we need to do to adjust the URL to get this working.
Thank you!

January 23, 2015 at 12:28 am #51297clearscopedesignParticipantOk thank you, I have added the access key and it now works. There are 2 issues however:
1. Using Amazon S3 seems to change the behavior of how eStore downloads. Whereas before all encrypted download items would be downloaded regardless of file type, now it seems that that is not the case. For example, without using Amazon S3, eStore will automatically download a PDF file (and not open it in the browser). However, while using Amazon S3 instead of downloading the PDF eStore is opening it in the browser. Is there a way to solve this? We need eStore to download all items like it normally does, not open files in the browser.
2. When attempting to make the file private from within Amazon S3, so that it cannot be accessed without eStore’s encryption process, we are unable to get this to work. I have followed your instructions by unchecking the open/download, view permissions and edit permissions boxes from within Amazon S3. However, when doing so it then causes this error when attempting to download the item through eStore:
—
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.
<Error>
AccessDenied
<Message>Access Denied</Message><RequestId>0858A353CE86A19C</RequestId><HostId>ZfCxh+ygJqMRKy/2SXV4ore3fFiXFGbvfnbkDty1VnuKjQ435OQ+gSt4acg+ZX/SOHG+SZcmqE8=</HostId></Error>—
So as of now the file is still available to the public and the link could be shared. Can you please tell me what I need to do to get that part working?
Thank you!
January 23, 2015 at 1:03 am #51298wzpModeratorUsing Amazon S3 seems to change the behavior of how eStore downloads.
Once the link is clicked, control transfers to Amazon’s servers and the files go directly from Amazon to the users. If they can watch Netflix without any problems, they can download your files.
- You need to adjust the Media Disposition settings on your Amjazon console:
- All you need to do is make the file “private.” Without the secret keys, they can try all day and nothing will happen:

April 13, 2015 at 5:36 am #51299clearscopedesignParticipantHello,
We have a member who is having this same problem. She is able to log-in to the eMember section of the website, but when attempting to download materials, she gets the message, “Access Denied! Please provide valid username and password to download the file.”
We have tried using the Amazon S3 method but that does not solve anything, the same results occur.
In the most recent case, the member is using her home internet connection and says that there is no network or firewall protection on it.
Do you have any suggestions here? It now seems that this problem may not be limited only to corporate networks (though that is certainly where it has occurred the most). Is there any setting that folks can change on their internet connection to stop the “pushing action” of the encrypted links from being blocked?
Thank you!

To place the issue into context; this is just one person out of your entire user base?
In the most recent case, the member is using her home internet connection and says that there is no network or firewall protection on it.
If she uses some other connection, besides her “home internet connection,” does she still have problems?
Also, is your server hosted by a conventional hosting company, or is it self hosted?
April 21, 2015 at 9:48 pm #51301clearscopedesignParticipantHi,
This is not just one person, it is a significant portion of our user base. Many of our customers are teachers, and many of them have this problem when attempting to download our materials from their schools or companies.
Our server is hosted by a conventional hosting company.
If the users use their home internet connection, they do not have a problem. Whenever they try to use the internet connection at their school or company, they get the error when trying to download the materials.
Many of them have asked the IT manager of their school or company to look into the matter, but the IT folks (from different companies/networks) have never once been able to find a setting or permission that would be preventing access.
This problem has been ongoing and is not specific to a single network – it has been continuously reported from different users who are at different schools & companies.
We have tried the Amazon S3 method that you suggested, but that does not solve the issue.
Thank you!
PS – Just to clarify, the previous example given was from a home internet connection, but I believe we can disregard that case – all other examples are from school & company networks, and we usually get reports of the problem every week.
April 22, 2015 at 2:27 am #51302adminKeymasterDo you see this issue if you turn OFF the folder protection feature of eMember? See the 2nd option from the following page:
April 22, 2015 at 2:32 am #51303wzpModeratorWe have tried the Amazon S3 method that you suggested, but that does not solve the issue.
Please see if you can get a COMPLETE screenshot of this instance; with the username & password prompt, for an Amazon S3 download. The screenshot must include both the browser’s address bar, and the dialog box. If the address bar shows a URL that includes your site domain, it may be the situation infered to by @admin or some other .htaccess related matter.
