I’ve been looking all over the documentation for information about membership cancellations and refunds. I haven’t been able to find much. Many questions here.
I have recent downloads of eMember, eStore and Affiliate.
1. How does one go about canceling his membership? (As one time payment, and/or subscription)
2. Is there a capability for refunding a one-time payment in the case of a member canceling say, within 30 days of signup?
3. What about for a subscription type membership? Could we refund the subscription payment if he cancels within 30 days?
4. When a member cancels his membership, is the member record retained with some sort of an inactive flag? Or is it deleted at that time?
5. What about in the case of Secondary memberships? Is there a way a member can cancel one membership type while leaving the others in place? (Again, with that 30-day refund capability).
6. Is there a way of limiting the number of times a member can signup, then cancel with refund? (For instance, we allow him to signup and get a refund twice… beyond that he is not eligible for refund)
7. And of course, with all of these, we would want any member refund to be reflected in the affiliate’s account.

With that said, here are my answers:
1, 2 and 3) A member can contact you (the admin) to cancel a membership and you can issue a refund to them (given you want to offer a refund).
For a subscription payment, you can create a 30 day trial period if you wanted to. In any case a user or you can cancel an ongoing subscription payment anytime. The following post has more info on it:

This post has some more relevant info too:
4) When you issue a refund or when a subscription is cancelled, the plugin will automatically block the access privilege of that account and set the account status to “inactive”.
5) Secondary membership levels can be a little tricky but it should be doable as you can issue the refund or cancel the payment then edit the users account to make it reflect that.
6) A user only ever creates one account on your site. In the future they just update their account (they don’t create a new account). You can block them in eMember so they can’t do anything on your site using their account.
7) When you issue a refund for a payment, the affiliate commission will get reverted automatically.

Is this the same effect on the member database as the “Delete Account” shortcode?
Can you point me toward a post or documentation that shows how to issue a refund, in such a manner that it will reverse the affiliate commission as well?
June 15, 2013 at 1:10 am #56117adminKeymasterFor one time purchase membership, the “Delete Account” option will do everything. If the membership has an active recurring subscription agreement then that subscription agreement also needs to be cancelled (the member or you can do it from the respective PayPal account).
The following post has answer to your question (please check the link under refund):
