You can see that items aren’t added to the cart without “updating” the cart though, right? Is there code I can add somewhere to call the update before the cart is displayed?

And I’m noticing that if I have 2 items in the cart and remove 1, it shows up empty again.

Yes, and I can’t see them. If I “view page” on the check-out edit page I can see them, but doing the same on the shopping cart edit page shows me an empty cart.
