Possibly the reason you couldn’t see that link was that it was a draft/preview page. This one should work – here is my test gallery page so you can see this shopping cart behavior:

I just tried that, and it does not work. I added something from page 1 to the cart and the page did not refresh, so I refreshed it manually and it still wasn’t there. But when I click on page 2, the cart now shows up both above and below the gallery grid on page 2, and then if I go back to page 1 it also shows up above and below the images. Its like it will not display any cart until I first go to the last page. And in the settings, I have checked “allow shopping cart anchor”.
Ok..what I did was simply delete the + symbol and not put any symbol in the variation symbol field. Then, I entered 0.001 for the base price and put the full price as the variations and it seems to work. But even though I saved the changes, when I go back to the admin panel the + symbol is back. I’m not sure why. It does not show up in the drop down menu which is good. This is what my test page looks like with it:
