I would like to have my product files stored in my account in Mediafire and provide the link to buyers. Can I use this sort of download link ?
March 11, 2011 at 7:44 pm #30070wzpModeratorYou could place it into the Product URL field. This will only work if PHP Safe Mode is turned OFF, and URL aware fopens() are enabled on your system.
You might also want to look into eStore’s S3 integration feature.
March 11, 2011 at 11:14 pm #30071robertolitoSpectatorThank you for your answer. The S3 integration feature looks like a great solution but unfortunately an expensive one. Amazon charges a minimum of $140 monthly for a basic account. I am not right now in a position to pay that.
On the other hand, my Mediafire account has unlimited storage and I have paid $ 65 for the whole year.
If you know what downloading from a shared hosting account implies, what are these settings you mention meant for, if you can explain briefly to me?
Also, and before I ask Hostgator support to make changes to the server in the PHP and URL aware fopens, do you happen know if such changes could cause some adverse effect on my WordPress blog, presently having the Estore Plugin and other plugins. I wouldn’t like to have a second problem just because I want to use Mediafire fileshare hosting, if you know what I mean.
I have the following Plugins installed:
Akismet
All in One SEO Pack
BackupBuddy BackupBuddy
Select Exclude Pages from Navigation
Gravity Forms
MaxBlogPress Optin Form Adder
Select PHP Exec PHP Exec
WordPress.com Stats
WP eMember
WP eStore
WP eStore & Authorize.net
WPML Multilingual CMS
Thanks

Not sure where you heard that amazon S3 account will charge you $140 but you are wrong. You only pay for the bandwidth you use on S3 (this is the cheapest and most reliable solution if you are going to host files outside your own server).
Check the following link:
March 12, 2011 at 2:49 am #30073wzpModeratorAdditionally, Amazon is offering a one year free trial of S3. Please see the link at the end of this article…

March 12, 2011 at 2:55 am #30074wzpModeratorP.S. The third comment at the end of the aforementioned article states that they were only billed 14 cents for exceeding the free tier limit.
March 12, 2011 at 5:52 am #30075robertolitoSpectatorOk. Although the table you sent me to says: 1 Terabyte storage per month= $ 0.140 per Gygabyte, and this would mean $ 140, I signed up for one year “free” trial of S3 to see what happens at the end of the billing period. Then I’ll tell you if it was really free or not and how much.
Now, could you please tell me how I configure eStore to get the links to download files from S3. Is there any tutorial available that I have missed? Thanks
March 12, 2011 at 6:34 am #30076robertolitoSpectatorI went to this page:
and found directions to go to the plugin Settings, Addon Tab to configure S3.
The only thing I found there to configure downloads was:
1. Automatic URL Conversion Preference
2. Download Method.
None of these mentioned S3 in their drop down menus. I’ll appreciate your help here.
March 12, 2011 at 8:12 am #30077robertolitoSpectatorOk, found out that I have Version 4.7.8 of the eStore. I don’t remember having received any email with an update. The plugin is now on version 4.9.8, I see. That could be the reason I don’t have the S3 integration. Where can I download please?
If you need my purchase receipt I can provide it.
March 12, 2011 at 8:34 am #30078robertolitoSpectatorOk. Managed to use the automatic system to download the upgrades. Thank you. I have upgraded now and have the S3 option. I will start setting up products and uploading them to S3 account and test everything. Will come back to you if necessary.
March 12, 2011 at 8:35 am #30079robertolitoSpectatorForgot: It will be greatly appreciated if you could send an email to customers telling them when upgrades are available. Most other software developers do.
