Before I start – I implemented the latest update as of 23-Mar-12.
I enabled the free account function, the form appears, I enter details, and when I click “Register” I get this:
The email address you are using is already taken!
Please choose a different email address.
I’ve tried this with various names and email addresses and each time it fails, BUT I do get the emails asking to activate.
None of the emails used were in the system and after each attempt I deleted the user.
Sounds like a bug…
Hi,
Check your WordPress user accounts.
These email addresses might still be there.

No – there is only 1 user (admin) – the users are only created within the member side.
I should’ve been more clear about this….
I can’t go live with this until the problem is resolved, so lmk when there’s a fix or if you need further info.
On the general settings page the only things checked/filled in are:
Allow Free Membership
Free Members Must Confirm Email Address
Free Membership Level ID: 6 (is the free membership level created)
I have sent you an email to get site access so I can investigate the setup.
Looks like you have a plugin or some other customization (maybe in your theme) that is making your site submit the form multiple times. So after you hit the submit button (the register button in this case) it is redirecting to this same page multiple times and submitting the values multiple times. So on the first submit everything is working fine (it is creating the member account) and then its doing another submit and eMember can see that the account already got created with that email so it is giving that error.
Please do this test to identify the source of this multiple submission issue on your site:
