Tagged: amazon s3, download file, estore plugin, protect content
I want to send an AWeber autoresponder email pointing paying subscribers to somewhere they can download a 300mb file.
I’m a bit unsure how to do that.
Do I host the file on my site, or somewhere like Dropbox?
How do I protect the content?
I’ve looked at the forum, but there’s so much info, I don’t know where to start!
Thanks for any help.
Mike
If you are also using our eStore plugin, the best way is to host files of that size on Amazon S3, and then setup the file as an encrypted download.
Amazon Web Services Simple Storage Service (AWS S3) Integration
The first year of Amazon S3 service is free, and the average eStore owner reports a monthly cost of about 15 cents.
Thanks
I am using eStore & eMember.
If the download was 30 mb, what would be the easiest way to host a zip file? [For around 10 downloads per month]
Thanks so much for you help.
M
Yes, 30MB files are no problem. It’s just that when you mentioned 300MB that I began to worry about how many members per month would try to do downloads.
Do you have a suggestion for where to host the zip file? On site, or dropbox, or ?
Well, if it’s the 300MB you originally stated, then use Amazon S3; because eStore has native Amazon S3 integration. For anything less than 100MB, your own site is fine.
DO NOT use Dropbox or anything other than Amazon S3. If you do, you will instantly DOUBLE your server’s bandwidth usage; as explained here:

Thank You.
