Note: This topic is suited more for slightly advanced users. This kind of setup is not really standard practice so you shouldn’t need to use this on a normal site setup.
I have installed affiliates.just-ask-kim.com as a affiliate control center. It’s home page is redirected to the affiliate login and it’s running WP Affiliate.
I have two subdomains, both of which will host non-downloadable products and simply return after sale to a page I protect. These two domains are running the satellite plugin.
PDT is configured on all three sites.
One of these sites satellite sites is timeline.just-ask-kim.com
Before I realized I could now bridge urls (I could kiss you for adding that finally!) I was going to use basic Paypal + WP Affiliate integration on the “timeline” site. As documented here: http://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/wordpress-affiliate/?p=168
However, now that I can bridge, I’m stumped on how to which plugins I need to use, on which sites to ensure everything gets passed around.
I need a paypal buy button on a page on timeline.just-ask-kim.com that check’s out through paypal and redirects to timeline.just-ask-kim.com/destination-page (for example). I need that sale to be correctly tracked by the affiliate (listed in the affiliate.just-ask-kim.com affiliate list) who made the sale.
I went into WP affiliate on affiliate.just-ask-kim.com and added an “Ad” that points to timeline.just-ask-kim.com to the affiliate list. That displays correctly and tracks clicks when used – but at this time does not track sales.
This makes some sort of sense as it feels like there is something missing.
Am I missing a required sales plugin on the main or all three sites?
(I own WP Affiliate, WP e-Member, WP e-Store & PDF Stamper)
Kim
PS: Love ya guys!
March 5, 2012 at 6:03 am #42714PeterMemberHi, Generally the eStore plugin needs to be installed on the same WordPress install as your main affiliate plugin. You can then use the satellite plugin on the other WP installs where eStore is not present.
Alternatively, if you have eStore installed on one of the sites where the satellite plugin is installed, the eStore plugin will detect the satellite plugin automatically and track affiliate commission accordingly.
March 5, 2012 at 11:01 pm #42715kimjcastleberryMemberI have estore installed on the main site (affiliates.jak) I’ve added a product, item ID #1.
I go to the satellite site and add the [wp_eStore_add_to_cart id=1] shortcode to a page… and get nothing. It simply prints the shortcode to the page. This makes me think I’m missing a second satellite plugin.
What do I need to put on the page on the satellite site, to get a buy button (don’t need a cart button, just a buy button) for product ID #1 from the main site that goes to paypal and then lands us back on different page on the satellite site?
March 5, 2012 at 11:17 pm #42716adminKeymasterIf you have followed “Option 1” from the following documentation to place a PayPal “Buy” button on your “timeline.just-ask-kim.com” WP install where the satellite plugin is running then it will track the sales fine after the sale:
http://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/wordpress-affiliate/?p=168
There is nothing special you need to do other than setting up the satellite affiliate plugin correctly.
You can also use eStore to handle the sale on your “timeline.just-ask-kim.com” WP install by following peter’s above suggestion.
March 6, 2012 at 9:39 pm #42717thesocialstrategyMemberHi there
I hope that you maybe able to help – I am brand new to this plugin (and to web stuff)
I have a similar issue to Kim above. I have the wp affiliate plugin on my website
[www.the-social-strategy.com] but my sales is on a Kajabi (memembership) site which normally deals with the transactions via paypal using an IPN. I have tested and everything seems to work except for my affiliate tracking. It shows no clicks on the affiliate details and therefore no payment shown for the test affiliate link
Please can you help me ensure that I have anything set up as it needs to
At what point is a “Click” registered ?
How does the plugin receive the payment information ?
Can I have a PDT and an IPN set up ?
Hope to hear from you soon
Thanks so much – Yvette
March 7, 2012 at 12:36 am #42718kimjcastleberryMemberWe got sales tracking working successfully using PTD (and not using eStore). eStore is next on my list to sort out for the other subdomain.
March 7, 2012 at 3:32 am #42719adminKeymaster@thesocialstrategy, Unfortunately we don’t have any integration with Kajabi system that you are using. All of our available integration options are explained under the “Integration Options” section of our documentation:
https://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/wordpress-affiliate/
The Affiliate Plugin is a WordPress plugin and will only work when used on a WordPress platform. Our sales page also specifically mentions which product we integrate with
With that said, Here are the answers to your questions:
– At what point is a “Click” registered? When the customer lands on your WordPress site (where the affiliate plugin is installed) following an affiliate link
– How does the plugin receive the payment information? – It depends on which product it is being integrated with
– Can I have a PDT and an IPN set up? – Yes, the following documentation has details:
March 9, 2012 at 11:01 pm #42720thesocialstrategyMemberHi there – I have taken it all off of Kajabi and now created a sales page ON my website but the system still isn’t working – It register the user click on the website BUT Paypal does not return them to my site after payment and there is no payment information given to the affiliate
Please can you take a look at our site here is the squeeze page the-social-strategy.com/squeeze?ap_id=mholmes with an affiliate id – Feel free to use it and track the payment if possible here is the thank you page – the-social-strategy.com/super-social-peeps-
March 10, 2012 at 1:18 am #42721kimjcastleberryMemberSocial, if paypal is not returning them to your site after the transaction then you likely have not added the “return” URL into the advanced button setting. If that is not there, then they wont land right and reporting isn’t possible. Please double-check your button configuration in paypal, specifically what is either called part 3 or advanced, where you add the place they should be taken too after they finish checkout successfully.

March 11, 2012 at 10:20 am #42722thesocialstrategyMemberHi Kim – Thanks for your reply – Yes I have that part all set up – Do you know if it works better with the IPN or the PDT option on Paypal ?
March 11, 2012 at 9:46 pm #42723kimjcastleberryMemberWhich one you need really depends on your setup. For me, on sites that are not using eStore but are using WPAffiliate (or its satellite plugin) I use PDT and it’s working well.
On sites I use eStore & Affiliate, I’ve used IPN in the past also with no issue. Its more about your individual needs than about which works better.
March 12, 2012 at 12:05 am #42724kimjcastleberryMemberYvette & Michelle, I signed up for your affiliate program which seems itself to be installed correctly.
However, in the ads/links I see only links for the squeeze page. The squeeze page itself has no connection to paypal and I’m not certain it can return PTD data.
You should have a link in there for your [http://the-social-strategy.com/join-party] page.
See, when paypal returns, it seems to be able to say “my button was on this page” but it doesn’t seem to be able to say “the visitor started out on this other page”.
So even if PTD is set up correctly, when paypal says “my button was on ‘join-party”… then the affiliate program says “we have nothing on join-party to track” … there cant (as I understand it, I could be wrong) be any sales tracked.
June 2, 2012 at 5:53 am #42725kc0bukMember@Peter, et al.,
We run sales through several different sites
I would like to have eStore handle all of the shopping cart / payment processing functions on each site and track everything via one primary WP Affiliate site.
For example, primary affiliate site is located at RC.com.
Sales happen on SBC.com, RRM.com, SRM.com, etc.
All of these sites are sub-sites under one WPMU installation.
My understanding is every site works from the same set of plugin code.
If I modify the eStore code as Peter suggested to report sales from SBC.com, RRM.com, SRM.com back to WP Affiliate (on RC.com) via the Satellite Plugin, will that also tell eStore on RC.com (the primary affiliate site) to use the Satellite Plugin instead of WP Affiliate?
Thanks for your guidance!
Jeremiah
June 2, 2012 at 8:46 am #42726adminKeymasterIt will be a little tricky if all of these domains are hosted on the same Multi-site install. Let me think about it and see what I can come up with.
November 7, 2012 at 11:43 pm #42727reneeporteousMemberI have your affiliate plugin, estore, and emember plugin. I am planning on using the emember plugin on two separate domains and I have my affiliate plugin on the main site. I have been reading through the forum and I am having the hardest time figuring out how to ensure my affiliates get credit if someone signs up for a paid membership site. Do I use a pass through, satellite?? The pass through seems like it wouldn’t work because I want them to be able to sign up directly on the membership site. I am not sure if I am understanding the satellite plugin correctly as it appears it is more for a subdomain situation and these are all very separate domains but really all part of our main business. I remember reading about a helper plugin when I first bought the affiliate plugin months ago and I always assumed that would be what I needed and now I am ready to implement everything so it will be ready by the beginning of the year and I am just getting more confused reading all of these posts. Any help would be appreciated.
