The the ‘From Email Address’ field I have entered: Development Testing <mypersonalemail@gmail.com>

If I hit reply in the email that is received, the ‘To’ address is shown as exactly the same as the ‘From’ address that it appears to come from: xxxxx@box652.bluehost.com

Which is somehow related to the hosting account for the site.

    How do we solve this?

That is a little strange. Do you have another plugin or a tweak in your site that could be overriding the “From Email” address of emails sent for your server?

For example, plugins like the following can override the from email address globally on your WP Install:

No, we don’t have any plugins that would be overriding this. It was happening on the dev site we tested on, which had no other plugins.

It seems like maybe certain hosting companies simply override what eMember tries to do in this regard?

I spoke to Bluehost and they didn’t seem to have anyway to get this to work except to have us change the $From address on line 84 of /wp-includes > class-phpmailer.php

We had to change that field from ‘root@localhost’ to the address that we actually want to use. So, it doesn’t seem like we can actually use the eMember settings within the WordPress dashboard to manage this. But at least we got it to at least not be sending from that janky host account email address.

Good to hear that you got a tweak for this. I do remember seeing other users from blueshost use that email configuration successfully so I have a feeling that there is something different in your server configuration.

Instead of the tweak, you could try using this plugin to specify your from email address and see if that can override it to a proper one:
