Hi
I think this has been asked before but ir is getting more important.
I have just gone live with my clients website:
I was with her last night for training on the WP Photo Seller software but she is still extremely concerned about not being able to protect the thumbnails. She showed me quickly what she has seen some people do (frequently) at sporting events she attends.
They looked at the thumbnail on a laptop / tablet, took a photo of it with their phone and saved the image to their Facebook etc. The quality, whilst not 100% was good enough for people to use as a memory of the event or share on social media.
With free tools like SnipIt it is also easy to grab images for this purpose.
I really don’t want to have to change software as now reasonably happy wit photo seller but this is becoming a deal breaker.
Could you there look at implementing ways to add the copyright to the thumbnails?
If this is impossible (well nothing is impossible) could you have an option to have a smaller thumbnail, i.e. 75×75 or 100×100 for example?
Lastly, I realise in the past you haven’t seen it as important to cover this big concern, could you advise if you think this could be achieved via CSS as I would then look around for a programer to do some work for me rather than have to research and buy a plugin that offers this.
Thanks
July 9, 2017 at 5:36 pm #76009wzpModeratorDue to their relatively low resolutions, watermarking of thumbnails is not supported. However, you can disable the ability for a person to “right click” on a thumbnail:

So, even if you managed to watermark the thumbnail; there will always be some people for which a watermarked, low-resolution thumbnail will still be “good enough.”

You might be able to use the tweak described in this thread, to decrease the size of the Template 1 thumbnails. Originally, it was offered as a way to increase the thumbnail sizes:

Please see above referenced post.
Lastly, if you are “good at mathematics,” there are ways to determine at what resolution an image should be, so that if someone takes a picture of the screen with a camera, all they will get is a square with a moire pattern (Google is your friend).
July 15, 2017 at 10:05 am #76010OpenFormulaMemberHI thanks for the reply but I do feel this is still inadequate and does mean I will have to start looking for an alternative photo seller solution if my client is not happy.
I will also not be able to use this plugin in future projects.
I have used your solution to reduce the thumbnail image size to 100px BUT and this is a very big but… All a site visitor has to do is increase the browser magnification to say 400% and you get a quality full size image to copy. I have turned off right mouse click but it is still easy to screen print/grab or to use SnipIt to copy the image.
As a last resort I have made the image 60% opaque through the CSS which reduces the quality a little but I do feel that not being able to copyright text over lay the thumbail is a critical failing of the plugin
I also think you urgently need to update the plugin so that the thumbnails can’t be enlarged (via the browser) enabling people to steel images!

That is both a browser & device dependent feature that is beyond the control of any plugin or website to control; because it affects a device’s “Accessibility Features.” You may also be violating the handicapped accessibility laws of several countries, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act, by trying to do this.
July 15, 2017 at 3:12 pm #76012OpenFormulaMemberThanks wzp
So that makes it even more critical that you provide an update to to enable an © Copyright flash on the thumbnails otherwise anyone can steal full size quality images by magnifying their browser!
I have just done this on the website of one of your clients. Within seconds I had a good quality image just by expanding the thumbnail!
Please treat this as a critical issue for your plugin.
July 15, 2017 at 3:34 pm #76013wzpModeratorAny attorney will tell you, that all you have to do is post an appropriate copyright on the same page as the image. That is enough. If you suspect a copyright violation; all you have to do is prove the image came from the copyrighted page. THAT is sufficient to file a takedown request with Facebook, et al.
You can use the “image search” feature of Google to find pages that contain your copyrighted images.

July 15, 2017 at 8:31 pm #76014OpenFormulaMemberThanks but prevention is better than cure. people won’t want to post images with copyright plastered across it.
Not sure why you are fighting this. All you need to do is either change the watermarking process to include thumbnails or add a facility to add as part of the shortcode.
Please bear in mind that the thumb can be enlarged at good quality so your product fails on two counts!
You are selling a product that fails basic needs and then telling customers to spend a significant amount of time finding out those people that have copied images because of this and then have to go through work to try and go down a legal route or get them taken down!

I just tried enlarging one of the thumbs from the photo seller galleries and it looked very pixelated and aweful.
Can you give me an example of one of your thumbs which enlarges with good quality?
July 19, 2017 at 7:36 am #76016OpenFormulaMemberHI – I cant see where I can upload images here?
July 19, 2017 at 11:23 am #76017wzpModeratorWhat @Peter is asking for, is a live link to a “test gallery” that actually exists, on your site; not a hypothetical “what if” example, that does not already use our product.

bear in mind I have shrunk the thumbnails to 100px and made them 60% opaque. This measure is designed to make the thumbnail unusable but still just about visible.
This doesn’t provide a great customer experience though as it makes it difficult for visitors to find their images.
Ideal is copyright protection across a decent thumbnail!
July 20, 2017 at 12:34 am #76019adminKeymasterI don’t understand your point at all. Your thumbnails are 150px which is very small. If you zoom that image 400% you are going to get a VERY poor quality image. You can’t enlarge a small image and get a full quality image without defeating the laws of physics.
You are saying the following 150px by 150px image can be enlarged without any loss all? How do you do that?

March 7, 2018 at 10:15 am #76020rpuddleMemberI know this is an old thread but this is make or break with me and my client. Without an option to watermark thumbnails the photographers will not allow us to upload images to the site, meaning we will be forced to look for an alternative.
