PDF Stamper- force file download

Hi,

I purchased your extension last week and am rather happy with the functionality and ease of installation. What I’m trying to accomplish is to create a button/link that will either force the pdf to download or have it open in a new window. So far I have been able to create a button, as per your instructions, but the issue is that the pdf opens in the same window as opposed to a new window. Ideally I would like for it open in a new window.

I have also used an .htaccess file to force the pdf to download rather than open up in the same browser window:

This results in the desired functionality of forcing the file to download but the windows shows the location of the stamped file and does not redirect back to the calling window.

Do you have any solutions or can you point me to a post that may help me implement the desired effect? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Vincent, You should be able to force open the download in a new window. Can you tell me which shortcode you are using to create the download button?

Hi,

I’m using [stamper_download_button_for_wp_user file_url=”wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Housing-Market-Update-7.19.141.pdf” button_text=”Download Now”] to generate the button. Is there another shortcode that will open the download in a separate window? Will the window close once the download has completed?

Thank you. I can add an option in that shortcode so you can open the download window in a new tab/window. However, it won’t close automatically. Let me know if you want that option.

I have added an option for it. Please check your email for an updated copy of the plugin.

You can now use new_window=”1″ parameter in the shortcode to open the download in a new window.

[stamper_download_button_for_wp_user file_url=”http://www.example.com/test-file.pdf” button_text=”Download Now” new_window=”1″]
