I’m creating membership levels, with each level having a monthly and a yearly subscription. My question is, can I have one subscription button that will take my client to the papal area where he can choose to pay for the monthly or yearly.
Or do I have to create to separate subscription buttons, one for monthly and one for yearly.

You must have 2 subscription buttons, because they will instantly go to the payment page, when clicked.
You need one subscription button for the monthly one and another one for yearly one. You will place both the buttons on the payment page and your member can use the one they want. Both those products/buttons can be hooked to the same membership level which is fine.
