This is an estore problem that I need help with.
A customer has complained that her download links are not working and giving her the following message:
” The secure download manager ran into a problem that it couldn’t handle, and is unable to process your download request.
The problem was due to the following reason:
The download link (see browser address bar) has been used too many times. If you think this reason is in error, please contact the site administrator”
I sent her new links both encrypted and shortened. She reported back the same error.
Upon my final try I sent her fresh encrypted links without the shortener. I’ve not heard back from her yet. This has not been the first person experiencing the problem. I attempted the links myself and they work fine. So I am not sure what to make of this problem.
I did find a post in this forum dated back to 2011 that there had been a problem with the link shortener. Is that still an issue?
Thank you
October 7, 2014 at 1:11 am #65886wzpModeratorNowadays, URL shorteners will try to transverse the link, before shortening it; to ensure there is no malware on the other end. This has the effect of subtracting from the number of allowed clicks. Just increase the number of allowed clicks.
October 9, 2014 at 3:57 am #65887HafnerDesignsMemberI will try that… However, I have more information. I resent the links as just the encrypted without the shortener. The client’s customer tried the new links using IE and got the same message. My client tried the links on two machines. One machine worked the other did not. I have no clear consistent information. I used Firefox, my client uses Safari and possibly IE and her customer used IE. Firefox worked.
October 9, 2014 at 10:01 pm #65888adminKeymasterPlease create a test download link for a test product then share the link and I will test it to see if you have an issue on this site somewhere. Also enable the debug option (if it isn’t enabled already).
December 24, 2014 at 12:19 am #65889jeremyers1MemberWhat was the final solution on this? I ran into the same problem. I have it limited to 5 downloads, but Google runs through these in about 1 minute or so. I upped it to 10, and Google used these up in 2 minutes.
Anybody know why it keeps accessing the same link over and over, and what sort of number I should put on it to allow my customers to actually use the link?
I don’t really want to set it to 999.
December 24, 2014 at 1:42 am #65890wzpModeratorWe are acutely aware of the problem:

The best advice, for now, is to disable link shortening; until we can figure out a solution. Please note that… Google is just “doing their job.”
*****UPDATE*****
We’ve replaced Goo.gl with Bit.ly
