Hi there… I’m using WP 3.0 and eMember 5.3.5 an I am looking for a REALLY GOOD forum plugin – Simple:forum or Mingle style for my site. Could anyone recommend the BEST OPTION that guarantees maximum compatibility and versatility with the eMember plugin? THX – Frank.

August 9, 2010 at 12:33 pm #23071frankdamienzoeMemberGreetings from sunny Spain…
Could anyone somehow elaborate (make it understandable) the response given by Member Kettlewell in the following thread: https://support.tipsandtricks-hq.com/forums/topic/is-there-a-forum-software-that-works-with-your-plugins I’m insanely struggling with the protection (multi-level) of a simple:press Forum and I have the feeling that Member Kettlewell has the answer but I don’t get it. Member Kettlewell doesn’t respond. So if someone else could? THX a bunch, Frank…

My understanding is that you setup SimplePress so different user roles can access different levels of forum posts. Once you have successfully setup the SimplePress so a user with the role “Subscriber” for example can only see the forum posts accessible by that role then all you need to do is control who can become a user with the role “Subscriber”.
This is where eMember comes into place. You use the WordPress user integration of eMember so when someone makes a payment they become a member of eMember and will also get a wordpress user account with the “Subscriber” role. This allows them to view the forum posts that only user with “Subscriber” role can see.

WordPress now only allows one role per user. But Simple:Press catches each role assignment – there’s a particular WP function that is a trigger, and Simple:Press monitors that “user granted role” trigger.
I expect this to work automatically very soon. It’s just that at the moment, eMember is creating user with
except that eMember is not currently setting the custom role I configured for my eMember membership level. I just reported that on another thread: https://support.tipsandtricks-hq.com/forums/topic/integration-with-simple-press-forum#post-8211.
Also related is this discussion where JeffW reports that eMember was not setting role “premium” for him, but creating all users as “subscriber”. https://support.tipsandtricks-hq.com/forums/topic/member-role-not-updating-correctly-w-expired-and-on-forums#post-5743
Frank, if I can help, give me a shout. Especially if you do so in Spanish…
