We have the Affiliate, eMember and eStore modules installed, configured and working properly with authorize.net. When a customer arrives on our website through an affiliate link (?ap_id=username) and purchases a membership the system correctly tracks the purchase and assigns the commission to the referring affiliate.
However, we also have a free membership level. We would like to make sure that affiliates who referred free members have access to the free members contact info. These free sign ups, however, do not show up in the affiliate module. Therefore, our affiliates have no idea how many free members signed up through their referral links and they cannot contact them in anyway.
Is there a way to track free memberships through the affiliate module?
October 27, 2012 at 5:58 am #50769adminKeymasterBy default, commission is only tracked when there is a payment. This is how affiliate software usually works. Its okay if a user comes to the site via an affiliate link and only signs up for a free membership. The commission will still be awarded when this member purchase a paid membership. So in that sense the free signups are tracked.
Did you have a different thinking of tracking free signups? What do you mean by tracking?
October 29, 2012 at 3:02 pm #50770msbuserMemberWell, it is important for affiliates to know who signed up, even with free accounts, so they can market to them. Otherwise, there’s very little chance for them to convert free members into paid members.
By tracking I mean that the sign up information is present under the sales tab, optionally with a name and email address. But since free sign ups do not show up it is impossible for the affiliates to send these free members any marketing materials that would entice them to upgrade their membership to paid status.
Does that make sense?
October 30, 2012 at 4:04 am #50771adminKeymasterUsually, the upsell is done by the site owner (not the affiliate). I will give you an example. Lets say you are an affiliate of Amazon site. You refer a customer (John) to amazon’s site. this customer (John) purchase something from amazon and you get the commission for it. Now, Amazon will never release any personal details of this customer to you (the affiliate).
Anyway, I can add an option in the plugin so it will track the *Free Membership” signups as a $0 commission. Will that help?
October 30, 2012 at 7:21 pm #50772msbuserMemberYES! It would be a HUGE help.
October 31, 2012 at 5:38 pm #50773msbuserMemberAny idea when that options could be added?
November 1, 2012 at 5:58 am #50774adminKeymasterIt will take a few days before I can have a proper solution in place (this change is not trivial).
I gave this idea some more thought and I don’t think adding a bunch of $0 commission is a good idea for this. I will add an option to track all the eMember signups as “Leads” in the affiliate plugin. This way you can still see all the free membership signup referrals without polluting the commission/sales screen. I would like to keep the sales/commission menu show *true* commissions only.
November 1, 2012 at 3:50 pm #50775msbuserMemberThat would work great as long as the affiliates can have access to the lead’s contact info. Ideally, name, email and address.
Would this show up as another item in the menu the affiliates could click to access their leads?
November 3, 2012 at 7:56 am #50776adminKeymasterYes, the affiliates will have access to the lead’s contact info (email and name). This data will be shown as a sub-menu under the “Referrals” menu/link.
November 5, 2012 at 5:05 am #50777adminKeymasterUpdate: You should be able to get this now.
1) Download and activate the eMember capture affiliate leads addon:
2) Get a new copy of the affiliate plugin so you get a new feature that we just added.
3) Go to the “Manage Leads” menu of the affiliate plugin and check the “Show leads/conversions data to affiliates”. This will show the lead details to your affiliates.
November 5, 2012 at 10:28 pm #50778msbuserMemberAwesome! Thank you very much for the quick response.
Stupid question… How do I get a new copy of the affiliate plugin? My download link has already expired.
November 6, 2012 at 3:48 am #50779adminKeymasterPlease fully read the following two links(they both have a section on getting updates/new copies):
