I have the very latest Estore and shortcodes,my shop is finally running at
http://www.offworldrecordings.co.uk/
I
ve been using W3 Total Cache with the html browser caching feature disabled as you set out, with download manager
do not convert` and method 6.The encrypted download links work ok in Firefox, but some customers with chrome and Ie were getting
page not found
errors.I`ve had to disable the caching plug to for it to work.
Can you suggest any work arounds? theres a bamboozling amount of options for that plug
Cheers
Allan

June 13, 2011 at 9:37 pm #33320wzpModeratorHave you tried this advice?
June 14, 2011 at 4:02 am #33321Lm1MemberYes i did that.I`ve disabled the plugin and still having issues.
I thought i`d fixed it about 4 hours but just had another customer said the downloads failed.
June 14, 2011 at 4:15 am #33322wzpModeratorWhen you say page not found errors, do you mean from the browser, or from eStore? Have you tried other download method settings?
June 14, 2011 at 4:33 am #33323Lm1MemberI had it working perfectly fine last night with do not convert
and method 6 buying them myself and yet today i had to troubleshoot and disable w3 total cache and move to method 2.I host the zip files for each track on my other main site http://www.offworldrecordings.com to
ease` the load.Although you mentioned elsewhere not to use zips this is the best format as mac users only get the mp3s
streamed
rather than downloaded (which they have to set in their own browser).I split the sites up it was just easier that way from a design point.
I
ve just created download links which work ok,but take about 5 seconds to start,i
ve asked the previous customer exactly what his errors were.I just noticed the caching plugin was enabled on .com which i have disabled too.
Do you have any suggestions
June 14, 2011 at 12:47 pm #33324wzpModeratorYou might consider using the native Amazon S3 integration feature. Customers who have switched to it report that all download problems have magically disappeared. As an added incentive, the first year is free.
Amazon Web Services Simple Storage Service (AWS S3) Integration
The primary reason for switching to S3 is that there are just too many variables outside the control of the plugin. Unless you went out and got the best hosting service money can buy, there will always be some little server related issue that can cause problems.
And from a design standpoint, you will improve your server’s performance because the burden of processing large downloads will be handled by Amazon.
June 14, 2011 at 3:20 pm #33325Lm1MemberThanks,yeh i
m ahead of you already signed up and uploaded the tracks.I can
t risk losing customers because of shared server overloads etc so i`ll give this a try.I
ve read your documentation, not quite sure how to order the links, permissions and whether i can test
download` them using the estore admin panel. Thanks
June 14, 2011 at 4:06 pm #33326wzpModeratorYes, you can use the admin test panel of eStore to generate links. Just be sure that you follow the instructions regarding how to setup the product URL using the as3tp format; and that your bucket names strictly adhere to the S3 restrictions for bucket names. The default permission is private for uploaded files to Amazon. You can test it by trying to save a link and then using it after it has expired.
June 14, 2011 at 8:49 pm #33327Lm1MemberThanks,uploaded files, not a clue how to configure and test tho, could do with a step by step guide
June 14, 2011 at 9:30 pm #33328wzpModeratorAmazon Web Services Simple Storage Service (AWS S3) Integration
Please let us know if any of this needs further clarification.
June 14, 2011 at 10:59 pm #33329Lm1MemberGot it working thanks, unsure whether to re enable the caching plug tho,i don`t want any more mess ups or stress tbh lol
June 15, 2011 at 12:07 am #33330wzpModeratorIt should be safe, as your server is no longer involved in the download process.
June 15, 2011 at 12:27 am #33331Lm1MemberJust had a customer mail me`”Download file cannot be found. Please let us Know.”
and didn`t receive an email with links either!
Created links are working fine, although there is a pause for some seconds before download starts
June 15, 2011 at 12:39 am #33332wzpModeratorIf S3 was properly configured, you should not be receiving that message. Please check to see if the product URL for that item is properly coded for the as3tp format and points to a valid bucket object.
