Hi,
Occasionally I received complaints from aol, hotmail, and yahoo users because they were not receiving the registration email with the verification link. The auto generated email was not going to customers spam it was just non-existent to the customer. I did some searching and found various reasons why. I assumed it was aol, yahoo, and hotmail viewing my auto generated email as spam and deleting and not delivering it. Sometimes the mail got through to (above specified) users. Sometimes not. I was handling this by manually generating a verification link and sending via email when/if a customer contacted me. Email I sent via reply to a customer using the same email address was/is being received perfectly fine. It is only email generated from the website that does not get delivered.
On Saturday (07/27) I released a new free download on my website which generated a lot of new registrations (can not get freebie without registering for my site) and a ton of “here is your download” email.
This is where it all started. After a period of time, customers were not receiving their download link via email. I tested when I first installed the squeeze form and received the email immediately, everything worked fine.
After a few hours, I tested again and did not receive the email. I tested to multiple different email and did not receive it. I started getting notified by customers that they were not getting it either.
I entered a new download link, and re-entered my “send from” email address on the eMember settings tab. Saved my changes and tested. I got the email and customers once again started getting it too.
Last night I had multiple contacts from customers who were not receiving their registration confirmation email. I checked eMembers and see that the last 3-4 pages of people have not completed their registration. This has historically meant that no email was received. I assisted two customers by manually sending them a link. Both completed the registration process but this time I did not receive the “new member” confirmation email. So I’ve gone from customers sometimes not getting email, to all customers not getting email (for download link) to now me not getting standard email. I have not changed any settings. I am receiving all other email to my email address. I am not receiving email generated by the website to any address.
I think the amount of traffic my site experienced on Saturday created the problem. I do not know how to resolve. I clicked the debug logs but the squeeze form and ipn handle reports are not capturing new information. I reset the logs and some of them reset and the two I mentioned are still showing the old information – nothing new and did not reset.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
July 30, 2013 at 12:20 am #56853adminKeymasterIt is likely that your server is experiencing some email related issues. First, I would like to make sure that the plugin is working as it should then we will go to the next step.
1) Load fresh copies of the plugins:
https://support.tipsandtricks-hq.com/forums/topic/re-install-or-load-a-fresh-build-of-the-plugins
2) Enable debug in the plugin settings
3) Share the URL of a page where I can go and fill in a squeeze form (so I can check to make sure the plugin is working and is sending emails). You can create a temporary test page and put a squeeze form on that page so your or I can test.
Once the above steps are complete, you will need to take a look at the following checklist to identify and solve the email issue:
July 30, 2013 at 1:45 am #56854appliquedownloadMemberHi Admin,
Thank you so much for your reply! This is the craziest thing I’ve ever experienced! I am currently receiving new member notifications again. I’m not sure why but I”m thankful.
I am hosted by godaddy and called them regarding the email issue a few months back. I was told that they do not host my email so their servers had nothing to do with it. I’m really not that tech savvy to know for sure if that is true.
I am happy to give you log in credentials for my website if necessary so that you may have a look around.
I will load fresh copies of the plugins. Can I load them while I’m experiencing a steady amount of traffic on my site or should I wait until traffic slows down? I can load them overnight and have them ready for tomorrow morning.
The debug settings are currently checked. Two of the logs are not recording any new information. The IPN log and the squeeze form log are not recording new information even after being reset. I will be sure to check the box when I load the new copies of the plugins.
The page you can test is: [http://www.appliquedownload.com/happy-pencil-applique/]
You will need to be a registered member of our site to view the squeeze form and post content. I can provide credentials if necessary. It might be beneficial to register with the site and see if you get the confirmation email though.
At 2:43 EST, I received approximately 16 email from the website notifying me of new member registrations. I am still however seeing that multiple users are not completing the process which to me means they are not receiving the email.
I have notified google (gmail) which handles my email and have not received a response. I questioned whether or not my site was deemed to be a “spammer” because of all the new registrations, and download requests that happened in a very short period of time. Again, I have not gotten a response from gmail to know for sure.
Please let me know if you would like log in credentials for my site and who/where to email them. Also, I am terrified to uninstall and reinstall the plugins without knowing if I can do it when my site is experiencing traffic. Your thoughts and advice would be appreciated!
July 30, 2013 at 2:24 pm #56855wzpModeratorQuestion: Are you using a “regular” Gmail account, or Google Apps for Business?
If you are using a regular Gmail account, you are “at the mercy” of whatever SMTP abuse filters Google may have in place; that prevent spammers from hijacking Gmail accounts, using them and then moving on.
July 30, 2013 at 3:17 pm #56856appliquedownloadMemberHI There!
I created a business account with gmail which allowed me to use my domain name (@appliquedownload.com). I’m not sure if that is considered a “regular” gmail account or not nor do I know what the limitations for either would be. It would be good to know so that I could make decisions about upgrading my hosting account (godaddy) to handle my email. Unsure what to do…
July 30, 2013 at 5:22 pm #56857wzpModeratorBy “regular,” I meant the free gmail accounts; not the ones you pay for having. As a business account user, have you tried calling (instead of emailing) Google support?

July 30, 2013 at 6:26 pm #56858appliquedownloadMemberNo I looked for a phone number but didn’t find one. I ended up sending a message to google help… I will look again. Thank you!
