In case anyone else has the same issue – PHP was set to 7.4 – changed down to 7.3 and all works as expected now.
maybe a simple option would be to change ‘username’ to ’email’ and ’email’ to ‘confirm email’
That way you capture the email, but twice.
It does seem strange that you can’t simply change a field, or maybe I don’t understand the plugin.
Let’s assume we change the username field to simply say ’email address’ – how will this get transfered over to aweber as an email address?
The only way I can see is if people add their email twice –
once in the renamed username field and once in the email field.
Do you understand what I am trying to do – only use email/ password as the login and not the current username/ password.
I understand how to change field labels, that’s fine, but I need to carry the field content over to aweber, hence using the email field instead of username.
