Solution: Replaced the Twenty Twelve theme with another one (Emphasize theme). Still don’t know exactly what caused the issue.
Update: This issue appears to be related to the shopping cart widget appearing in the side bar. After more testing, I noticed that every page that has the widget (not just the product list) is not rendered correctly if the widget is in the sidebar (the effect is minimal on some pages and difficult to notice). Removing the cart widget from the sidebar allows the page to render properly on the first load.
Perhaps this is theme related. The site uses the Twenty Twelve theme updated to 1.7 with some CSS customizations. Note: deactivating the CSS customizations does not solve the issue.
I have found that the issues appears regardless of the layout I use (ones with a long description). I can change the layout and the text does not flow properly when the page is open in a new tab in Chrome. Refreshing fixes it. Could this be a caching issue?
Yes Chrome is up to date: Version 42.0.2311.152 m running on Windows 7.
It is happening on more than one computer running Chrome.
Do you see the first two items in the fancy10 layout?
They both look like a basic layout with transparent background.
