Yes, got this sorted, thank you. I was just being dim!
March 6, 2015 at 1:02 am in reply to: Displaying multiple membership levels of a member on a page #57301John McMullenSpectatorI think I may have workaround. I turned off all the redirects. Then pasted the following into the box called Additional Message for Logged in Users in Settings/Pages Forms:
You can acesss <hyperlink-on>free content here <hyperlink-off>in addition to the premium content listed below:
[wp_eMember_my_membership_levels show_welcome_page=”1″ level_name_label=Video-Name level_type_label=Order primary_label=Main ]
When logged in a user sees their premium content listed. Note I have also changed the labels.
As premium users can also access free content I’ve added a hyperlink to the URL of the page with the freee content. Their profile doesn’t see the free content as they didn’t purchase it. I’m sure there’s a way to automatically assign free content to paying members, but I havent found it yet!
March 5, 2015 at 8:35 pm in reply to: Displaying multiple membership levels of a member on a page #57300John McMullenSpectatorHi WZP, thanks for the reply. I followed the instructions it only partially worked. It strips out the part of the short code that shows “Welcome Page”
[wp_eMember_my_membership_levels show_welcome_page=”1″]
It now ignores the show_welcome_page=”1″ – before it showed the link (welcome page) – but the link didn’t take the user to the welcome/landing page for each different level.
I am trying to show the user’s membership levels and for him to be able to click on the welcome page for level 1 or the welcome page for level 2 etc.
The article 158 i referred to say you can do this. But the hyperlinks don’t work?
Thanks
March 5, 2015 at 5:56 pm in reply to: Displaying multiple membership levels of a member on a page #57298John McMullenSpectatorHello, I want it to be that when a member logs in s/he goes to a page with a summary of the levels they have access to. From there they can select which page/level they want to access.
Upon login I can automatically redirect the user to a “profile” page which shows the information I want by using:
[wp_eMember_my_membership_levels show_welcome_page=”1″]
Beside each level it says (Welcome Page) which is a hyperlink. I want each hyperlink to go to the page for that level. The article below suggests that this is possible:
My problem is that all of the (Welcome page) links all go to the same page – i.e. the “profile” page. Am I missing something obvious?
Thanks
September 10, 2014 at 3:51 pm in reply to: WP eMember captcha add-on breaks auto login after registration #65409John McMullenSpectatorOh. Thanks for clarifying that. I was adding the captcha to reduce the probability of automated (non-human/spam)registrations. But now I see why it won’t work. At least we know the plugin/add-on are working correctly – even if the user isn’t
John McMullenSpectatorThank you wzp, that is helpful. The scope of these plugins (in terms of the clever things they can do)is vast. I’m trying to understand them in the context of a development site. I expect the only way to understand their full power/usefulness will be in a live (commercial)application.
I’ll certainly try that APR method.
I can generate the serial codes, but it is up to me to figure out how to use them. That may take some time!!
Regards.
John McMullenSpectatorHi wzp, I accept the points you make. If I buy a music CD, I often burn a backup copy.
You say “on the day of the broadcast, place a Download Now button on the page, that points to an APR protected page.”
Is there a way to generate/issue an APR link for members, without them going through the (Paypal) purchase process again?
Meantime I think the way forward is via eMember paid subscription to get to the live page; and as the simultaneous login feature has been recently enhanced, that should work.
IS there detailed documentation/tutorial on your site about the serial number/access key feature. There’s one page but one with more detail on how to use it would be helpful.
Thanks
John McMullenSpectatorHi, I am as disappointed as “bgolden” was to find that having (eventually!!) managed to get the APR functionality working, I could simply forward the email to 3 other people, and all of then can login simultaneously and watch for free.
My scenario is that I want to sell access to watch a live conference stream. This will be marketed for several months and we want as many people to buy their access as far ahead of time as possible. Not on the day. Therefore the “time limit” and the “number of page views” techniques won’t work for us.
Are these my options?
(1)Is it possible to sell them an “access key” (using the option within eStore) so they have to enter that value somewhere to view the page and the system knows if the key is already in use?
(2)Is it possible to generate the link but defer sending it out until the day of the event?
(3)Is it better to use eMember and force them to register, then they have to login to view the stream and I can set the “disallow simultaneous login” feature? This is more work for me and for them.
(4) use the Lightbox plugin, although I find S3 not too user friendly for live streaming and I don’t want to have to buy another plugin.
Many thanks for your help.
June 5, 2014 at 12:10 pm in reply to: eMember Disable Simultaneous login not working as expected #63157John McMullenSpectatorHello, my apologies for not replying sooner. Unfortunately my brother-in-law died last week so I have not been using the PC for a week.
Yes, the simultaneous login seems to be involved. Without it there is no problem.
With it activated, it prevents anybody else using the login details, but it ALSO prevents even the registered user from logging in again until an hour has passed.
Maybe it needs a line to say “if a user has logged out, then allow another login right away”.
Thanks for your help.
May 27, 2014 at 11:47 am in reply to: eMember Disable Simultaneous login not working as expected #63155John McMullenSpectatorAlso, I am not sure if it is relevant or not, but when I installed/activated eStore and eMember, I got the advisory message below for eMember:
Emember:
The plugin generated 197 characters of unexpected output during activation. If you notice “headers already sent” messages, problems with syndication feeds or other issues, try deactivating or removing this plugin.
I wasn’t expecting any errors, so I copied and saved the text. Not sure if this helps.
Thanks
John
May 27, 2014 at 11:32 am in reply to: eMember Disable Simultaneous login not working as expected #63154John McMullenSpectatorHello, Thanks for your reply. Sorry for the delay with the weekend and Bank Holiday here. No I’m not using any other plugins except Contact Form 7,eStore and eMember.
The problem seems to be very specifically linked to the “disable simultaneous login” function. If that option is NOT selected in my settings I can login/logout and login again across different machines and platforms. No problem.
As soon as that option IS selected I can login. If I close the browser and reload it, it remembers I am logged in ok. If I try to login from another device it also knows not to let me.
But the problem is that if I select “Logout” then it won’t let me login again (on any device/platform) for 60 minutes. It is like when the person clicks on “logout” it doesn’t clear the cookie/timer or whatever. It doesn’t matter which browser/device – the lock out is for 60 minutes.
If I am charging for access to premium content then the user needs to be able to login/logout at will. I’m sure this is a really small setting somewhere or one line of code, but any assistance would be much appreciated.
Out of curiosity I selected “forgotten password” and let the system send me a new password just to see if that made any difference – and it didn’t.
Thanks for your help.
May 23, 2014 at 12:18 pm in reply to: eMember Disable Simultaneous login not working as expected #63151John McMullenSpectatorThanks. As far as I am aware, I am not using any caching plugin. Should I be?
I have the “logout member after xx minutes of inactivity” set to 5 minutes, but it seems to ignore this.
SO, is it possible to make it so that the cookie is cleared when a person ends their browsing session? Would that fix the problem? It is not good that they can’t login for 60 minutes if they are paying for access to watch a live stream.
Thanks.
John McMullenSpectatorHi, I know this is a bit late but it might help somebody else who is searching. I had the same problem – although the theme was supposed to be “responsive” I can’t see the side bar (including log in widget)on my Android device. That was a bit critical as no-one could log in!! I duplicated the log in in a footer widget as part of the min page and it was fine on Android.
On desktop, the footer was far enough away from the side bar login that it looked fine.
John McMullenSpectatorHello, apologies for the delay in replying. I managed to fix this myself by reducing the number of pages from 3 to 2 and using the “emember protected content” short code.
For each video I had a “main” page from which members could go to a login page or a register page. I reduced this to a login page (with the premium content protected by the short code above) and a register page. The registration page is for the specific level.
I appreciate that as i write this it does not make a lot of sense, but the point is I found the solution using the short code available. It has raised another question about ending the login when the session ends, but I’ll explore that elsewhere.
Thanks
