Last night my host shut down by site and their support gave me this feedback:
“In this case it seems this wp_eStore_settings script was the issue, as it never replied with information to the server, causing a timeout:
[Thu Mar 27 23:16:47 2014] [warn] [client 70.123.233.44] Timeout waiting for output from CGI script /home/dawnbyda/public_html/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php, referer: …/wp-admin/admin.php?page=wp_eStore_settings
If this happens again please let us know, or you may want to contact the support of this plugin to see if they have any suggestions.”
I do not know how to begin addressing this. Also, the direct download links work fine, but my customers’ encrypted links do not. Are these two issues related?
Thanks for any help
March 28, 2014 at 1:36 pm #61915dawnfariasMemberJust now I changed the the download method to 2 per the suggestion in this post: https://support.tipsandtricks-hq.com/forums/topic/wp-estore-download-methods.
My files average 30-50 MB. Are these considered large enough to follow the instructions in the “selling large files” post? See: http://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/ecommerce/selling-large-files-with-wp-estore-796
Also, if the new download method works, will my customer’s previous links work now or do I need to manually send them new ones?
March 28, 2014 at 1:44 pm #61916dawnfariasMemberAlso, my customers and I keep getting “decompression failed” errors when using the encrypted links.
March 28, 2014 at 1:46 pm #61917dawnfariasMemberOK, I tried this suggestion from one of the forum posts
“If you are having a download issue for a large file then try using download method 2 or 6 which seem to work better for large files.”
Method 2 didn’t make any difference, but just now method 6 did! I am going to email my customers to try their links again. *fingers crossed!*
March 28, 2014 at 3:19 pm #61918wzpModeratorHow large is the file? If it is substantially large (your mileage may vary), you might have to use Amazon S3 integration instead:
It’s free for the first year, and most customers report a monthly cost of less than 17 cents. Your cost should be even less; as Amazon recently announced their 42nd consecutive price decrease since 2008.
March 28, 2014 at 5:36 pm #61919dawnfariasMemberThank you for your response. Most of my files are 30-50 MB.
Method 6 in the download settings worked! I’m so excited about that. Thankfully (hopefully?!) I won’t need to look into another third party integration.
March 28, 2014 at 5:37 pm #61920dawnfariasMemberAlso, for future readers having a similar problem: I did NOT have to resend my customers their links. Once I updated the download method they were able to successfully download their original links.
March 28, 2014 at 8:21 pm #61921wzpModeratorThat’s provably because all of this happened within the default of 5 attempts or 48 hours, whichever came first.
