Can someone explain why WP eStore sends me the WP eStore – Payment Verification Failed email when my PayPal account receives any kind of payment from a source other than WP eStore such as eBay or another person? The transaction has absolutely nothing to do with WP eStore. I’ve used other systems in the past and this never happened. It only happens with WP eStore. Is there any way to prevent this from happening again?
Looks like you have the eStore’s IPN handler’s URL hardcoded in your PayPal profile as the default “Instant Notification URL”. So PayPal is sending a payment notification to eStore and eStore is going… this payment does not verify since it didn’t come from eStore.
Don’t turn off IPN in your account but you don’t have to use eStore’s IPN URL in the notification URL field (eStore will set that field at transaction time)
I can’t remove the url. Paypal won’t allow me to save the settings without it.
Just use the URL of your home page (you don’t need to specify the eStore’s IPN handling URL there). eStore will tell PayPal where to send the notification when you checkout using eStore.
+1 for the solution, I had run into the same issue.
The IPN setup instructions don’t indicate that setting it to the eStore’s IPN handler could cause problems, nor does it suggest setting it to something benign like the website’s homepage. I did get from the instructions that the eStore replaces the value per-transaction, but with no other suggestion with what to replace it with, I thought (incorrectly) the IPN address would be “the best choice.”
cheers,
