I just set up my eStore last night, and ran a few test purchases. The test purchases all ran perfectly, processing the transaction, and allowing me to download the files that were purchased.
Overnight there were two orders, however neither of the buyers received a download e-mail. I did another test purchase, and this time got the following e-mail after the purchase went through:
Subject: WP eStore – Payment Verification Failed!
Please fully read this email as it will explain everything you need to know
to address any issue that maybe occuring (if there are any)!
The post payment verification for a payment failed. This could happen for
one of the following reasons:
1. The fund for the payment have not cleared in PayPal yet (no need to do
anything as the digital product will be delivered once the fund clears).
2. Someone maybe trying to scam a purchase! (no worries… WP eStore got
your back
3. You have made a mistake somewhere (please see the failure reason section
below to find out more details about this).
===== Failure reason =====
Here are some more details for the exact cause of this transaction
failure…
Invalid Seller Paypal Email Address : (Seller E-Mail)
From there I checked the log file, and got this message:
[02/21/2011 12:32 PM] – SUCCESS :Paypal Class Initiated by (BUYER)
[02/21/2011 12:32 PM] – SUCCESS :Post string : mc_gross=0.01&protection_eligibility=Eligible&address_status=confirmed&payer_id=EBADY8X2PLUX4&tax=0.00&address_street=(Street Address)&payment_date=04%3A32%3A26+Feb+21%2C+2011+PST&payment_status=Completed&charset=windows-1252&address_zip=(ZIP)&first_name=(Name)&mc_fee=0.01&address_country_code=US&address_name=(Name)¬ify_version=3.0&custom=&payer_status=unverified&business=(E-Mail)&address_country=United+States&address_city=(City)&quantity=1&verify_sign=Azl8c0MXQZKto.wsF8sV519TlMboA3RqkzPz.QROb7SNWZmW8Am1kM6S&payer_email=(Buyer E-Mail)&txn_id=41H59467CY001044T&payment_type=instant&last_name=(Name)&address_state=(State)&receiver_email=(Seller E-Mail)&payment_fee=0.01&receiver_id=6Q3GNRHHP9XQ6&txn_type=web_accept&item_name=Test&mc_currency=USD&item_number=7&residence_country=US&handling_amount=0.00&transaction_subject=Test&payment_gross=0.01&shipping=0.00&

[02/21/2011 12:32 PM] – FAILURE :IPN product validation failed.
[02/21/2011 12:32 PM] – SUCCESS :Paypal class finished.
From there I’ve researched the forum and have taken the following actions:
1. I made sure that the IPN was enabled on Paypal.
2. I made sure Auto Return was on in Paypal.
3. I turned on the Payment Data Transfer in Paypal.
I’m still getting the same error, despite these changes. The transactions are going through, and the IPNs are being sent from Paypal. My guess is that the problem is with the IPN verification, which from what I’ve read would prevent sending out the e-mail with the download link.
One (possibly key) note: Last night I was using the “Add to Cart” buttons and everything was working fine. I switched everything to the “Buy Now” buttons, although the “Add to Cart” buttons were live last night. This morning, when I test the “Add to Cart” button, I get this message on Paypal:
“We cannot process this transaction because there is a problem with the PayPal email address supplied by the seller. Please contact the seller to resolve the problem. If this payment is for an eBay listing, you can contact the seller via the “Ask Seller a Question” link on the listing page. When you have the correct email address, payment can be made at http://www.paypal.com.”
Any help would be appreciated.
February 21, 2011 at 4:17 pm #29289wzpModerator1. Is the seller’s (you) PayPal email address properly configured in eStore?
2 Is the Use Sandbox Mode checkbox unchecked?
February 21, 2011 at 5:33 pm #29290scorpion632Member1. Yes. An update since my last post. I reset the eStore settings to default, then went back in to change everything. That worked for my account. I went back to resubmit the IPNs from Paypal, and the test orders went through. However, the other writer for my site took the same steps as above for his Paypal account, and when he re-submitted his IPNs they failed again.
2. Yes, the sandbox mode is unchecked.
February 21, 2011 at 5:41 pm #29291scorpion632MemberJust for clarification and to update the status:
There are four products on the page. Three are mine, one is another writer’s. The three that are mine are all “buy now” buttons. I did a test run to confirm that the “buy now” button works for my Paypal account.
The one product for the other writer is also a “buy now”. I also put his e-mail address in the Paypal box in the “Buy Now” section on the “Edit Products” page for his product. It’s obviously sending to his e-mail, since he is getting the payments. It’s just not sending the IPN back to the site for the next steps (same problem I had before hitting the default estore settings button).
February 22, 2011 at 12:27 am #29292wpCommerceModeratorIf you have made a transaction after resetting the settings to default can you please share the content of the following two files?
ipn_handle_debug.log
eStore_post_payment_debug.logAlso please post a link to the page where you have the buttons.
February 22, 2011 at 12:36 am #29293scorpion632MemberI did do the reset again earlier today. I ran a test file. It worked with my Paypal account, but didn’t work on the other seller’s account.
Here is the ipn_handle_debug file for a transaction that just failed to the other seller, and a transaction from earlier that went through:

February 22, 2011 at 1:44 am #29295amin007ParticipantDo you have the “Use Strict PayPal Email Address Checking” field checked in eStore’s settings?
February 22, 2011 at 2:15 am #29296scorpion632MemberYes
February 22, 2011 at 2:22 am #29297scorpion632MemberI turned that off and it now works for the other seller.
What are the disadvantages of having that turned off?
February 22, 2011 at 4:08 am #29298amin007ParticipantIf you read the help text that is below that field it will explain its functionality. Here is what it says:
“If checked the script will check to make sure that the PayPal email address specified is the same as the account where the payment was deposited (Usage of PayPal Email Alias will fail too).”
Pay attention to this line (when you add multiple email address to your PayPal account its called email alias):
Usage of PayPal Email Alias will fail too
There are no disadvantages. It just adds an extra layer of security.
February 22, 2011 at 4:27 am #29299scorpion632MemberAh. I thought the “Paypal EMail Alias” was a reference to a security feature, like someone using a fake Paypal account.
Thank you for all of the help. Looking forward to using the plugin!
