Tips and Tricks HQ Support Portal › Forums › WP eMember › WP eMember deactivation causing entire site to go blank
I have recently installed Memberium, but I was reluctant to let go of eMember until I knew Memberium was going to work. Now when I go to deactivate eMember my entire screen goes blank and my site “disappears”. I have to navigate backwards to find it again. Any idea what’s going on and how I can deactivate and uninstall eMember safely?
I have rebuilt all of the eMember-related pages, so they are no longer needed.
I have also deactivated eStore, which doesn’t seem to have caused a problem, but I’m reluctant to uninstall it for fear of problems.
I’m not a programmer, so basic information would be helpful.
Thoughts? Thanks!
I have to navigate backwards to find it again.
What does “navigate backwards to find it again” mean, specifically?
You can deactivate any of our plugins without any issue. Deactivating and deleting a plugin is safe.
Have you done some custom coding where you are calling eMember functions from other places of your site (for example, from your theme’s file)? If you are then those calls will fail when you deactivate the plugin and cause the kind of issue you explained.
Make sure to put all your custom code with a “function_exists” check so when you deactivate the plugin, your custom code doesn’t get executed.
