I have seen in the specs of some other WordPress Affiliate Plugins that they now support “Direct Link Tracking” where I, as the affiliate manager, can simply register an affiliates domain and the plugin tracks any traffic/sales from that domain.
I have not seen that capability listed anywhere in your WP Affiliate Plugin….is this a feature you might be able to add sometime in the near future?
thnx

And what if the affilate link is coming from an “unregistered domain?” The advantage of placing the Affiliate ID in the URL query string, is that a single domain such as WordPress.com can have several thousand sites & pages; and the correct Affiliate ID is specifically picked up from the URL query.
Requiring affiliates to “register” their domains with you also creates “control issues,” between you and the affiliates.
Also, that process does not work 100%. It relies on using the referral URL data from the browser. A click may not have referral data present in which case it will miss the referral (so the affiliate won’t get any reward).
When the affiliate ID is in the query string, it will work 100% of the time.
The problem today is that most of the visitors to our site are on a mobile phone. They browser the web with their mobile device.
Then they return later with a tablet or computer to make their purchase. So the cookie that was placed on their mobile device doesn’t do any good.
If they came initially from an affiliate’s website, then the Direct Link Tracking registers them with that specific affiliate. They don’t need a query string with an affiliate ID.
