Is it possible to add a link to a new page to the affiliate home page?

I would like to offer an affiliate training page with a few “how to” articles.

Yeah, you can add a new menu item that points to a new page. You will need to modify the “header.php” file in the “affiliates” directory to include this new nav menu.
