I am using WP Affiliate without any add-ons (besides Paypal).

I’ve been testing the affiliate links and cookies. They are set to the 21 day default.

I’ve tried using the links on various browsers. When I use the affiliate link, it gets registered as a click. But if I then go directly to the page without the affiliate ID at the end of the link, the click doesn’t register.

Isn’t the point of the cookie so that if someone returns to the page, directly or from another non-affiliate link, the affiliate will still get credit for that if it’s within the cookie life?

I made sure that the browsers I was testing on (Chrome, Firefox, Safari) all had cookies enabled for the life of the cookie.

    Any tips for troubleshooting?

But if I then go directly to the page without the affiliate ID at the end of the link, the click doesn’t register.

The cookie gets set, only if the query string includes an Affiliate ID.

Isn’t the point of the cookie so that if someone returns to the page, directly or from another non-affiliate link, the affiliate will still get credit for that if it’s within the cookie life?

Once the cookie is set, if they return and make a purchase, the affiliate will get credit for the sale.

Are you saying that no cookies are set in the browsers?

The click is ONLY registered when the user clicks on an affiliate link. If the user later goes to the site directly, it won’t register any click because nothing was clicked. However, the affiliate will still get the commission from the sale.

Ah ok, that makes sense! Thank you for the clarification admin. Gonna try testing that now but I’m definitely relieved!
