Will a redirecting plugin prevent a cookie being set (by WP Affiliate Plugin) onto the browser of a (referred) visitor who gets redirected on the very first page he/she arrives on my site?
I am using WP eStore and WP Affiliate Platform Plugin. I am about to activate a redirecting plugin (WP GeoIP Country Redirect) to redirect all UK visitors to an alternate homepage. Will the WP Affiliate plugin have time to set the cookie before the person is redirected to the alternate page (same domain)?
All i know about how the WP GeoIP plugin works is ‘the hook (redirect) is applied into wp_head (<head></head>) section.’
Thanks.
As long as all pages are on the same site, it should work. Try it and see!
Update for anyone else interested in this scenario:
It works!
Summary:
If a UK person clicks on an affiliate link to my website, they get instantly redirected to the UK version of the webpage, but the affiliate referral is still logged
Hopefully this will always work like this(i.e. hopefully the affiliate plugin will always get time to log the referral before the redirect plugin redirects the page.)
Hopefully this will always work like this…
Unless someone from certain countries visits your site, using TOR or some other proxy server.
How would that affect whether the appended affiliate id is captured by the affiliate plugin before the redirection plugin takes action? This is the issue in discussion here.
(Note that this discussion is not related to whether they are redirected to the correct country or not. That’s entirely separate.)
I’d be interested to know the mechanism by which a proxy server would prevent the affiliate ID from registering (regardless of whether a subsequent redirect occurs or not)?…
Thanks!
You are correct, what I stated only pertains to the IP address and geolocation. The affiliate ID should be passed through just fine.
Ok that’s good to know. I appreciate the input wzp. This topic is resolved for me now
