Why have exclude page plugin?

Why would one need to have the “exclude page” plugin? All one has to do is not add the page to the menu.

My concern is that the protected download page is seen in the Sitemap. I thought that exclude page plugin would prevent the protected page to be seen in the sitemap.

Back in the day WordPress didn’t have the “Menu” feature that it now has. Using an “Exclude Page” plugin was the only way to hide a page from appearing in the menu. If you don’t need it then you don’t need it (don’t use it). It doesn’t matter if the protected download page shows in the sitemap because its protected and only logged in members can see the content.
