It is possible now. Please download a new copy of the plugin and you should be able to enter an email address in the username field:
April 28, 2014 at 5:31 am #42378wploveSpectatorI’m using eMember v8.8.6 – is this email/username feature in place? It doesn’t seem to be working when I try it. Is there a special setting I have to change to get it to work?
April 28, 2014 at 5:57 am #42379adminKeymasterYes, it is in place. You don’t need to do anything. Your users will be able to use an “email address” value in the “Username” field. What does it tell you when you try to enter an email address value in the username field?
June 14, 2014 at 8:53 pm #42380torgeirSpectatorI’m using the “Free Members Must Confirm Email Address” setting and would like to do the following on the registration form:
1) Populate the username field with the email from the registration initiation form.
2) Make the username field read only.
3) Hide the email field.
Thanks!
June 15, 2014 at 11:11 pm #42381adminKeymasterWe have created a free addon that lets your user log in using the email address value in the login widget. If you use that addon, then you I don’t think you need to worry about the above anymore. Do you want to try this addon?
June 16, 2014 at 4:25 am #42382torgeirSpectatoryes please that would be great
June 16, 2014 at 11:49 pm #42383adminKeymasterI have sent it to you.
June 17, 2014 at 4:17 am #42384torgeirSpectatorThanks, I apeciate the functionality of being able to login with the email, but I don’t want the user to have to or be able to choose a username on the registration form – I want to automatically use the email as username.
June 18, 2014 at 6:18 am #42385adminKeymasterThe username field is an integral part of the membership plugin’s architecture. We don’t have a way to just remove that field unfortunately. We can look into doing a custom job for you to customize the registration form to fit your needs. Please fill in the following form to get in touch:
January 17, 2015 at 2:49 pm #42386franciscusMemberHas there been any updates on this since the last post? Is there a way to autogenerate the username now, or do I still have to do custom development?
January 17, 2015 at 3:31 pm #42387wzpModeratorWhat specific behavior are you asking for?
January 17, 2015 at 7:29 pm #42388franciscusMemberI’d like to be able to suppress the prompt for a username on the registration form, and have the system generate a username automatically. The generated username could e.g. be numeric, or it could be made from the first part of the email address, followed by a number if required to ensure uniqueness.
Or if this functionality is implemented as a filter, I would provide the generation algorithm myself.
The essence of this request is that, with the “login using email address” add-on, there really is no need for usernames at the UI level.
January 18, 2015 at 11:25 pm #42389adminKeymasterI can create a custom addon to handle this. Use the following form if you are interested.
May 11, 2017 at 10:44 am #42390clearscopedesignParticipantCould we please also request the (free ??) add-on plugin referenced in this thread that allows for the user to log-in using their email address?
May 11, 2017 at 11:54 pm #42391adminKeymasterYou can download it from the addons download area. The following page has all the details:
