What is the procedure I should tell them? Do that have to go to paypal and cancel and start all over or is there away to upgrade them w/o canceling?
To upgrade an account all the member needs to do is pay for the new level and his level will be upgraded to the newly paid level.
Now, if the member is paying for a the membership level using a recurring payment model then he will need to first cancel that recurring payment as PayPal won’t allow you to change the recurring payment amount while a subscription is running.
So Please tell him to do the following –
1. Cancel the current subscription which will make his account expired.
2. Once he cancels the current subscription he needs to log into and pay for another subscription. But he can’t log in unless you allow the expired member to log in. So please make sure that you have “Allow Expired Account login” option checked in the WP eMember->Settings->General Settings->Account Upgrade and Renewal Settings section.
3. Now, he can make a payment for another subscription type membership and his account will be upgraded to this level after the payment.
If I allow that option, doesn’t that mean that all members who have canceled will now have access to content even if they’ve canceled their recurring subscription?
When “Allow Expired Account login” option is checked members whose account has expired will be able to log into the system but won’t be able to view any protected content.
