Hi, I would like to set up billing for my services in the following ways.

    1. I would have one option which is a basic monthly payment, but with a minimum commitment time of 2 months. That is, the standard rate is charged each of the first 2 months, and if the customer cancels this becomes effective only from month 3. How can I do this?

    2. I want to offer 5 months for the price of 6. The billing still occurs monthly, but no billing is charged in month 1. However, the minimum commitment time is 6 months (see point 1).

An alternative would be to split the price for the five months across six months, so the monthly rate is lower than normal but in this case the billing happens every month. After month six the billing price changes automatically to the standard rate.

I hope you can help, thank you in advance!

The problem is the “minimum commitment” requirement; which implies the customer is legally locked into your service for 2 or 6 months. The regular recurring payments system for PayPal, et al, allows the buyer to unilaterally cancel their recurring payments at any time. The only way to make a minimum commitment legally binding would be to use the eStore PayPal Installment Payment Addon.

Next comes the issue of how to transition customers to the regular recurring rate, which they can presumably cancel at any time. If you were also using a membership plugin, such as eMember, you can have them log into their account and “upgrade” to the regular recurring subscription rate.

Ok, I see, it’s a bit of a hassle but I guess I can make it work. I do have the eMember plugin, just bought it with the bundle for future use so that came in handy quickly.
