Hi I am using eMember to give my members access to music downloads. At the moment I am using a download link created with eStore but that gives me no way to monitor who is downloading which files. (but does allow me to link to an Amazon S3 file)
So was thinking of using your Simple download monitor plugin so from the log I can see who has downloaded which files. BUT.. when I test it it is logging me as my username from my wordpress login not from the eMember login. Is there a way to get it to monitor and log downloads by the username my members use to log into the eMember area if that makes sense?
Can Simple Download plugin link to a file on Amazon – or to a zip file?
Many thanks
Jonathan
November 17, 2016 at 1:52 am #74623adminKeymasterAre you using the following option of eMember by any chance?
That would make it to where the WP users and emember will have the same username (so you will get what you are looking for).
Let me know if that doesn’t work for you and we will add an option in Simple Download Monitor plugin to track emember usernames directly.
November 17, 2016 at 2:56 pm #74624jonnysMemberGreat thanks – I will try that. Just reading the instructions on the link – what will happen to people who have already registered on eMember, will I be able to track downloads they make?
Also – is it possible to link to a file on Amazon S3 as I do with your excellent eStore?
At the moment I am using a download link created in eStore – pulling a file on Amazon S3 which works great except I can’t track what they have downloaded, unless there have been any changes to the program?
Thanks J
November 17, 2016 at 11:25 pm #74625adminKeymasterYou can use the following option of eMember from the “Admin Functions” menu of the plugin:
Create WordPress User Account for the members that do not have one
It doesn’t have S3 integration yet. It is something on my todo list for the download monitor plugin.
May 6, 2017 at 4:10 pm #74626jonnysMemberI’m still confused by this. What I really don’t want to do is to reset everyone member’s password. Is it possible to get SDM to track the downloads of already signed up members of eMember without resetting passwords?
Thanks
May 8, 2017 at 12:28 am #74627adminKeymasterWhy would password get reset? When emember creates wp user account for the users that don’t have one, it will use their existing emember username and password.
I am almost done with creating the Amazon S3 integration addon for simple download monitor plugin. Give me a reminder in a few days and I should have something by then.
May 8, 2017 at 5:52 am #74628jonnysMemberThanks. It says this on Admin Functions of eMember: The WordPress user accounts will be created with the same details from eMember but the password will be set to “changeme” (The user will have to change the password to their liking).
Is that not the case – or is my eMember an older version maybe?
Is it possible for SDM to track an eMember – would that be an easier route, but I don’t think SDM has that functionality yet.
Great news re the S3 integration.
Thanks
